It was the same private sector that offered up free rooms and cancellations to people. Are there greedy entrepreneurs out there? Sure. Is it disgusting when they pull crap like this? You bet. But rather than just talking about possibly naming them, why didn't the BBC actually name those 'local hotels' and let capitalism fix it's own woes. If word got out a hotel did this, they may as well close down. Nobody would stay there again.
Some entrepreneurial genius (aka assistant manager at a Starbucks) got the bright idea to gouge the rescue workers at Ground Zero, charging them 10 bucks for a bottle of water. When word of it got out, Starbucks 1) fired the responsible party and 2) to save face, arranged for free water and coffee for the rest of the cleanup operation.
It's a two way street. Use it both ways.
