Default Rome: Total War Campaign Map Mod

I was just comparing the qualities of campaign map between Rome

    and the Battle for Middle-Earth

and was wondering if there were some changes that could be made to make the map more realistic or at least more attractive. The changes would be almost entirely cosmetic - mostly textures, and maybe a few models for forests. I am aware that the map in BfME is always zoomed out further and is of a more artistic style than that of Rome but when comparing the two from the maximum range (as you can see above) there are marked differences in quality (sorry about the low resolution Rome picture, but we all got that fold out map with the game anyway ).

Here are some satellite images (for colour reference) of Europe, something between the two would get my vote):

    Any thoughts?

BFME is more eyecandy than Rome , but insted of what many ppl dislike RTW , games are much better. Any one wanna buy my copy of BFME ?

in my opinion, that BFME map looks just plain bad and the RTW map looks at least ok.

Myrddraal - Sorry about that! I must have gotten mixed up. Please make the appropriate move.

LestaT - "but insted of what many ppl dislike RTW , games are much better." I think I understand... I'm not commenting on whether BfME's gameplay is better than Rome or not, I'm just saying that the campaign map for Rome is remarkably simplified and what should look like Europe from the air looks like a crappy airbrush painting.

Atheist_Peace - Which parts of the BfME map look bad to you? I agree that Mordor (big black part) looks pretty dodgy, but my main point was really about the lack of curves on the Rome map, everything is on a grid pattern and a grid pattern which is incredibly obvious at that.

I agree with you, but I think the other game's map is a little far out on the other edge. I believe only restrictions would be to few choices in tiles, though I haven't had a look at it. I've planned doing a campaignmap overhaul for the mod in the sig, but it might only be some minor ajustments in the existing textures.

btw, the battes of midgard or whatever is so nice because it's not dynamic and 3 dimensional as rtw but merely photographic. or so it seems at least...

ScionTheWorm - I think the BfME map goes a little far too , I just like the way its so much richer than the Rome map. The map in BfME is in fact 3D, that picture doesn't show it much though.

the reason the rtw image is very different from that satilite image is because of the evolutionary changes caused by: time, global warming, housing and etc.

Abokasee - I'm not sure housing would make the world greener... Maybe your right but I think the Ancient World would have been a little more primordial myself.

Interesting... I always thought that the R:TW map was a little stark.
