    Wink the musical label thread

this idea came to me after seeing Gawain´s "label yourself" thread and seeing Sjakihata say that the song "stuck in the middle with you" reminded him of this forum....

so what i propose is....we label ourself and others in this forum...through music selections...

choose a music for yourself.....something that you think represents you....do the same for others if you want...something that makes you think of them.

and for the love of whatever deity you believe in....keep it playfull ppl.

    i´ll get it started...

me-> i´ll go with Queens of the Stone Age -"Regular John"

extreme conservatives ->"Okie from Muskogee" by Merle Haggard...i swear...if they ever get around to getting their own country this has got to be the national anthem

extreme liberals->...uhm...probably something by RATM...maybe "Wake Up"

p.s.- this is obviously the result of a saturday night spent at home with nothing to do....man i need to get a gf.

There, but for the grace of God, goes John Bradford

My aim, then, was to whip the rebels, to humble their pride, to follow them to their inmost recesses, and make them fear and dread us. Fear is the beginning of wisdom.

I am tired and sick of war. Its glory is all moonshine. It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, for vengeance, for desolation.

I would say "Bright Eyes" of Blind Guardian for me, but because probably many of you don't know about it, i say "The Show Must Go On" of Queen.

And "Wait for an Answer" also from Bling Guardian, makes me think on imperialists.

    Interresting thread.

What music defines me, well tons of music. But I will try to select a few specific ones: Get up, Stand up by Bob Marley, Walk On the Wild Side by Lou Reed , Im So Bored with the USA by The Clash, Maggies Farm by Bob Dylan and finally Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash.

What reminds me of the conservatives here are songs like:

digital by Joy Division, rat race by The Specials, lost in the supermarket by The CLash

but it is more the message of the songs, rather than the music

if I offended anyone, it wasnt intentional

Nah I listen to the classic Latino stuff, and some of the newer stuff, but not much of the new stuff

That or Subteranean Homesick Blue by Bob Dylan and Leave an Open Door and Mile High and Risin' by Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers.

    One. by metallica.

    I can’t remember anything
Can’t tell if this is true or dream
Deep down inside I feel to scream
    This terrible silence stops me

Now that the war is through with me
I’m waking up I can not see
That there is not much left of me
Nothing is real but pain now

Hold my breath as I wish for death
    Oh please god,wake me

Back in the womb it’s much too real
In pumps life that I must feel
But can’t look forward to reveal
Look to the time when I’ll live

Fed through the tube that sticks in me
    Just like a wartime novelty
Tied to machines that make me be
Cut this life off from me

Hold my breath as I wish for death
    Oh please god,wake me
Now the world is gone I’m just one
Oh god, help me hold my breath as I wish for death
    Oh please God help me

    Darkness imprisoning me
    All that I see
    Absolute horror
    I cannot live
    I cannot die
    Trapped in myself
    Body my holding cell

    Landmine has taken my sight
    Taken my speech
    Taken my hearing
    Taken my arms
    Taken my legs
    Taken my soul
Left me with life in hell

Bright eyes is a very dark and sad song in many respects, if your going through a tough time, don't worry about it, shrug it off.

You must be a huge Blind Guardian fan, what with your name and choice of songs, so am I. Blind Guardian, along with Dragonforce are my favourite power metal bands. BG, are simply unreal. Their lyrics and melodies are unmatched.

    You sir, know good music.

For me? At this moment in time, Avenged Sevenfold's Seize the day. As none of you will know it - probably - the lyrics:

Seize the day or die regretting the time you lost
It's empty and cold without you here, too many people to ache over

I see my vision burn, I feel my memories fade with time
But I'm too young to worry
These streets we travel on will undergo our same lost past

I found you here, now please just stay for a while
I can move on with you around
I hand you my mortal life, but will it be forever?
I'd do anything for a smile, holding you 'til our time is done
We both know the day will come, but I don't want to leave you

I see my vision burn, I feel my memories fade with time
But I'm too young to worry (a melody, a memory, or just one picture)

Seize the day or die regretting the time you lost
It's empty and cold without you here, too many people to ache over

Newborn life replacing all of us, changing this fable we live in
No longer needed here so where do we go?
Will you take a journey tonight, follow me past the walls of death?
But girl, what if there is no eternal life?

I see my vision burn, I feel my memories fade with time
But I'm too young to worry (a melody, a memory, or just one picture)

Seize the day or die regretting the time you lost
It's empty and cold without you here, too many people to ache over

Trails in life, questions of us existing here, don't wanna die alone without you here
Please tell me what we have is real

So, what if I never hold you, yeah, or kiss your lips again?
Woooaaah, so I never want to leave you and the memories for us to see
    I beg don't leave me

Seize the day or die regretting the time you lost
It's empty and cold without you here, too many people to ache over

Trails in life, questions of us existing here, don't wanna die alone without you here
Please tell me what we have is real

Silence you lost me, no chance for one more day [ then continues in the background]
    I stand here alone
Falling away from you, no chance to get back home

Oh, don't worry man... I'm not passing for a bad time, we all have bad times, but not, i chose that song because it represents all the power that flows when your wrath explodes by the problems that you may have, like a lion chained for all it's life, finally it breaks the chains an tears all to pieces, is almost something spiritual it has an epic air arround it (and arround the song too). And yes i'm a fan of their songs, but i don't condidere anybody my idol if that's what you think, is just that their songs make me tremble and chill. Anyway i would say that my favourite song is "And then there was silence" but that cannot identify me, so i choose that.

I don't believe in idol's too, I wasn't suggesting that they were anything of the sort to you, merely that you must like the band.

My favorite BG song is indeed, And then there was silence, too. Come to think of it, I think it is every BG fans fav. 14 minutes of constant brilliance, it is magnificent.

Hmm. Well I can never figure out what sort of genre the bands I love are. Well Bob Dylan, the Dead, Beatles, Stones, Allman Brothers, the Band, Zeppelin, Clapton, Pink Floyd, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Neil Young and more don't really have a particular genre that represents all of them, perhaps "Classic Rock".

Not sure what song would really represent me. My friends would do a better job of figuring that out...

    HAIR

    She asks me why
    I'm just a hairy guy
    I'm hairy noon and night
    Hair that's a fright
    I'm hairy high and low
    Don't ask me why
    Don't know
It's not for lack of break
    Like the Grateful Dead
    Darling

    Gimme head with hair
    Long beautiful hair
    Shining, gleaming,
    Streaming, flaxen, waxen

Give me down to there hair
    Shoulder length or longer
    Here baby, there mama
    Everywhere daddy daddy

Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
    Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
    My hair

Let it fly in the breeze
And get caught in the trees
Give a home to the fleas in my hair
    A home for fleas
    A hive for bees
    A nest for birds
    There ain't no words
For the beauty, the splendor, the wonder
    Of my...

Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
    Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
    My hair

I want it long, straight, curly, fuzzy
    Snaggy, shaggy, ratty, matty
    Oily, greasy, fleecy
    Shining, gleaming, streaming
    Flaxen, waxen
    Knotted, polka-dotted
    Twisted, beaded, braided
    Powdered, flowered, and confettied
    Bangled, tangled, spangled, and spaghettied!

    Oh say can you see
    My eyes if you can
    Then my hair's too short

    Down to here
    Down to there
    Down to where
    It stops by itself

They'll be ga ga at the go go
When they see me in my toga
    My toga made of blond
    Brilliantined
    Biblical hair

My hair like Jesus wore it
    Hallelujah I adore it
    Hallelujah Mary loved her son
Why don't my mother love me?

Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
    Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
    Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
    My hair
Heres a link to the lyrics to all the songs in this incredible musical. I remeber seeing the original Smothers Brothers production at the Aqaurius theatre in LA in 69-70.

    Here's the letter from BG:
    And Then There Was Silence
Turn your head and see the fields of flames

    (Don't move along)
    He carries along
(Cause things they will go wrong)
    >From a distant place
    (The end is getting closer)
    He's on his way
    (Day by day)
    He'll bring decay
    In shades of grey
We're doomed to face the night
    Light's out of sight

Since we've reached the point of no return
We pray for the starlight we wait for the Moon
The sky is empty, alone in the unknown
    we're getting nowhere

We have been betrayed by the wind and the rain
The sacred hall's empty and cold
The sacrifice made should not be done in vain
Revenge will be taken by Rome

    We live a lie
    Under the dying moon
    Pale-faced laughs doom
    Indulges in delight

    It's getting out of hand
    The final curtain will fall

    Hear my voice
    There is no choice
    There's no way out
    You'll find out

    We don't regret it
So many men have failed but now he's (gone)
    Go out and get it
The madman's head it shall be thine
    We don't regret it
That someone else dies hidden in (disguise)
    Go out and get it
    Orion's hound shines bright

Don't you think it's time to stop the chase
    Around the ring
    Just stop running, running
    Round the ring
Don't you know that fate has been decided
    By the gods
    Feel the distance, distance
    Out of reach

    Welcome to the end
Watch your step, Cassandra, you may fall
As I've stumbled on the field
    Find myself in darkest places
    (Sister mine)
    Find myself drifting away
    (Death's a certain thing)
    And the other world
    The other world appears

Find myself she dies in vain

I cannot be freed, I'm falling down
As time runs faster, moves towards disaster
The ferryman will wait for you, my dear

    And then there was silence
Just a voice from the other world
Like a leaf in an icy world
    Memories will fade

    Misty tales and Poems lost
    All the bliss and beauty
    Will be gone
Will my weary soul find release for a while
At the moment of death I will smile
It's the triumph of shame and disease

    In the end (Iliad)
Raise my hands and praise the day
Break the spell show me the (way)
    In decay
The flame of Troy will shine bright

The newborn child will carry ruin to the hall
The newborn's death would be a blessing to us all

    Good choice?
    Bad choice?
Out of three you've chosen misery

    Power and wisdom you deny
    (Bad choice, bad choice)

War is the only answer when Love will conquer fear

    So the judgement's been made
To the fairest the graceful says
    Badly he fails

    (Warning)
Fear the heat of passion, father king
    (Don't let him in
    Don't let her in)
    Desire, lust, obsession
    Death they'll bring
    (We can't get out
    Once they are in)

    She's like the sunrise
    Outshines the Moon at night
    Precious like starlight
She will bring in a murderous price

(In darkness grows the seed of man's defeat)
    Jealousy
(I can clearly see the end now)
I can clearly see the end now
I can clearly see the end now

(The thread of life is spun)
The coin's been placed below my tongue

    Never give up
    Never give in
Be on our side so we can win
    Never give up
    Never give in
    Be on out side
(Old moon's time) is soon to come

    Nowhere to run
    Nowhere to hide
Nothing to lose like one we'll stand
    We'll face the storm
    Created by a man

    Roar Roar Roar Roar
    Troy (Troy Troy Troy)
And as the lion slaughters man
I am the wolf and you're the lamb

(Hallowed) Troy will fall round the walls
    Faith is shattered, bodies fall

    Nowhere to run
    Nowhere to hide
Nothing to lose like one we'll stand
It's all for one and one for all
We live for will be wiped out

    I feel that something's (wrong)
    Surprise, surprise they're gone

Full moon your time goes by
And new moon's still kept out of sight
    We live
    Misty tales and Poems lost
    (We die)
All the bliss and beauty will be gone

Will my weary soul find release for a while
At the moment of death I will smile
It's the triumph of shame and disease

    In the end (Iliad)
Raise my hands and praise the day
Break the spell show me the (way)
    In decay
The flame of Troy will shine bright

    Roam in darkness
    (Spread the vision)
    Roam in darkness
    (Spread the vision)
    Roam in darkness
    (Spread the vision)
    Roam in darkness
    (Spread the vision)
    (Roam in darkness)
(We will be lost if you truly believe)
    (Roam in darkness)
    Troy in darkness
(There's a cold emptiness in our hearts)
    That they've gone away
    (And) won't come back

They'll tear down the wall to bring it in
They'll truly believe in the lie
    Lie, lie

With blossoms they'll welcome the old foe

    The vision's so clear
When day and dream unite the end is near
    You better be prepared

The nightmare shall be over now, there's nothing more to fear
Come join in our singing and dance with us now
The nightmare shall be over now, there's nothing more to fear
The war it is over forevermore

    No hope
    The blind leads the blind
    Carry on
    Though future's denied

    Mare or stallion
    There's far more inside
We are in at the kill we'll cheerfully die

    Misty tales and Poems lost
    All the bliss and beauty
    Will be gone
(Will) my weary soul find release for a while
At the moment of death I will smile
It's the triumph of shame and disease

    In the end (Iliad)
Raise my hands and praise the day
Break the spell show me the (way)
    In decay
The flame of Troy will shine bright

    Holy light shines on

    So the judgement's been made
We're condemned though the trial's far ahead

    The crack of doom, Father
Your handsome son is heading home

Still the wind blows, calm and silent
Carries news from a distant shore
Still the wind blows, calm and silent
Carries news from a distant shore
Still the wind blows, calm and silent
    (Out of mind)
Carries news from a distant shore
    (Can't get it)
(Still the wind blows, calm and silent)
    (Out of mind)
(Carries news from a distant shore)
(Can't get it out of my head)
    (Can't get it)
    (Out of mind)
(Can't get it out of my head)

    Sorrow and defeat
    Sorrow and defeat
    Born On The Flames

My Dad said this song by the Drive by Truckers represents me. I disagree, since I've never had a girlfriend, much less got her pregnant, and I don't live in the South. Really only one line or two represents me... I'll let you guess which one.
Sorry for the chords on top, but it's the only lyrics I know of it:

    PUTTIN' PEOPLE ON THE MOON

    Em

Mary [Em] Alice had a baby and he looked just like I did
We got [Em] married on a Monday and I been working ever since
Every [Am] week down at the Ford Plant but now they say they're shutting down
God Damned [Em] Reagan in the White House and no one there gives a damn
Double [Am] Digit unemployment, TVA be shutting soon
While [Em] over there in Huntsville, They puttin' people on the moon

So I [Em] took to runnin' numbers for this man I used to know
And I [Em] sell a few narcotics and I sell a little blow
[Am] I ain't getting rich now but I'm gettin' more than by
Ain’t it [Em] tough to make a living but a man just got to try
If I [Am] died in Colbert County, Would it make the evening news?
They too [Em] busy blowin' rockets, Puttin' people on the moon

    [C] [C/B] [Am] [Em]

Mary [C] Alice quit [C/B] askin' why I [Am] do the things I [Em] do
I ain't [C] sayin' that she [C/B] likes it, but what [Am] else I'm gonna [Em] do?
    If I could [C] solve the world's [C/B] problems,
Probably [Am] start with hers and [Em] mine
But they can put a [C] man on the [C/B] moon
And I'm [Am] stuck down here just scraping by

Mary [Em] Alice got cancer just like everybody here
Seems [Em] everyone I know is gettin' cancer every year
And we [Am] can't afford no insurance, I been 10 years unemployed
So she [Em] didn't get no chemo so our lives was destroyed
And [Am] nothin' ever changes, the cemetery gets more full
And [Em] over there in Huntsville, even NASA's shut down too

Another [Em] Joker in the White House, said a change was comin' round
But I'm [Em] workin' at The Wal Mart and Mary Alice, in the ground
And [Am] all them politicians, they’re all lyin' sacks of shit
They say [Em] better days upon us but it’s sucking left hind tit
And the [Am] preacher on the TV says it ain't too late for me
But I [Em] bet he drives a Cadillac and I'm broke with some hungry mouths to feed

    [C] [C/B] [Am] [Em] 2X

And I [C] wish I'z still an [C/B] outlaw, was a [Am] better way of [Em] life
I could [C] clothe and feed my [C/B] family
Still have [Am] time to love my [Em] pretty wife [C] [C/B] [Am] [Em]
And if you [C] say I'm being [C/B] punished. Ain’t got [Am] better things to [Em] do?
Turnin' [C] mountains into [C/B] oceans Puttin' [Am] people on the [Em] moon
    [C] [C/B] [Am] [Em]
Turnin' mountains into oceans Puttin' people on moon OUT over D slide to Emhe moon

    You're a drugs dealer! I knew it!

For me, I'd say Led Zeppelin's Whole lotta Love, due to my epic wang.

Well no... and even if I was a drug dealer, I'd hope my Dad wouldn't know of it.
    BKS, excellent choice!

Now I think about it, that song might represent Gawain better...
Save for Patterson Hood's hatred of Reagan, and I'm unaware whether or not the whole Mary Alice would be accurate.
