Hey guyz....
I was playing with Egypt. I was preparing for an attack against Numidia. I sent a 13 unit army to the nearest Numidian city. It took me 3 turns to get there. On my way, I pressed the mercenaries button and guess what I found:

I have one - you pressed the mercenaries button when your army was still in Egypt , Egypt was ruled by the Macedonians and they had mercenaries Greek hoplites
Yeah, I found this too. I read a guide recently and it said if you have just destroyed an army a lot of times you can hire mercenaries who were former units in that army that routed.
I never knew that...
Happens to me all the time!

i had it worse. i had eles in italy barb mercs in the desert and at last i could hire all ships and inhabitants of cities in a pack of 400 a time. RTR isnt it.Hey guyz....
