    Question "Great Achievements"

So, how does this mode of the game work? Does it only depend upon building stuff? Or do you get points for cool battles and conquests, too?

And between this and the conquest mode, which do you prefer? All I'm saying is I'm hoping this Achievements thing is alright, because Conquest is turning out to be so damned TEDIOUS. There are WAY too many provinces. And you have to leave troops lying all over the map because eventually all of your lands will have loyalty problems, and occasional massive revolts. You build up high troop numbers to hold all your provinces, then you have no money to build with, so you have to conquer more provinces. You end up fighting 5-6 battles per turn, and there will always be a good portion of those that are close enough you can't auto-resolve, and then you wear out your attention span, to the point where you attack a province and rout the enemy and carelessly chase them all over the map and then FIFTY THOUSAND CAMEL WARRIORS WALK ON AS REINFORCEMENTS and you're f***ed.

Because the computer, which has an infinite attention span, never lets his guard down, even when his general is dead.

Yes, that's one of his strategies to defeat me, that wiley computer, throwing up so many battles that take so long that eventually I stop paying full attention. That and forest battles. The computer has a good shot at forest battles because he can see in the forest and I can't.

I should probably take a break.

Anyway, all I know is that this is taking a HELL of a lot longer than Shogun.

GA mode is more interesting than World Domination mode. There are different achievements for each faction, including buildings (citadels, grand mosques, cathedrals, etc in certain provinces), trade, homelands (holding certain provinces at certain times), having a certain number of buildings in a province, etc. Some only come up in certain circumstances (defending europe against the Golden Horde, defeating the heretics in France). An interesting way to play is GA only meaning you only take the lands given in your GA goals, and no others.

The GA mode gives you points for various objectives - most of them revolve around holding onto (or regaining) your homelands and conquering provinces, taking certain provinces by Crusade also yields you extra points. But you also get points for various faction specific objectives - The Almohads have to build a Grand Mosque in Cordoba, the Danes have to achieve a certain level of trade in the N Sea, the French have to build the Krak de Chevaliers in the Holy Land etc.

When you start a GA game each faction is listed with their points totals and their GA goals.

Most people play with GA mode after a while, it offers more opportunity for setting yourself targets other than "conquer every province on the map". However, they are bugged and some of them don't work, and even worse they are un-moddable. Which is a great shame as it - if done properly - would have been superb. Which is the story of MTW, a great game, but it could have been so much more.

The GA stuff can be modded....

GA is the most exciting mode to play MTW. And also with a mod(preferably XL, too bad BKB hasn't got the GA), it's really awesome.

And BTW, it's Glorious Achievements not Great Achievements....

Only homelands can be modded, not really a great thing imho...

You meet the requirements for certain goals, but don't get the points. Also - I think its the Polish University - you have to build it in High, but don't get it as a GA goal till Late

I m starting to believe I 'll never get the points for noble mercantilisme... I ve done all the upgrades, no other seems to have the fleet or the infrastructure to perform equal trading activities, but I m still not getting the points... Not to mention that I m the richest Doge in the hood..

IIRC GA is only bugged in vanilla-VI for the non-playable factions (Golden Horde, Pope, Novgorod, Rebels) so don't play them in GA mode. I haven't come across any other GA bugs, but there might be one in there. In games started in High or Late the intermediate ongoing goals don't show up until the first homeland requirement comes up (ie Holy Roman Empire, etc.).
