I know he was in favor of Turkish membership at one point, but I thought he personally was the guy who blocked the initial votes to grant them 'exploratory' status, or whatever you call it when you're just being considered. And I thought it was because they didn't stand w/ France & Germany against the US on Iraq. I could have my facts knockered, won't be the first or the last time.
