Gray sprites?

This has probably been adressed (and most likely answered) earlier, but since I couldn't find a post that explained this simple enough for me, here we go:

I've given Carthage the ability to build (spanish) Scutarii. However, one the battle map, the Scutarii appear without faction colour (neither the original "spanish" colour nor the carthaginian white), and their entire model is gray. No physical details whatsoever on the units.
The most confusing thing though, is that when I zoom in on the unit, SOME soldiers (6-7 of them) in the unit appear like they should, Scutarii in white tunics, while the rest remains gray toned.

Any amiable modding souls prepared to waste their precious time (slooowly) explaining the process of skinning the Carthaginian Scutarii to this slow-witted noob?
