Coud be done, I have also thought about it. But only with very big restrictions.
    1. Technical
There is absolutely NO way of launching Total War out of another programm (so you will have to make the player quit your BG MOD start up Total War and play a battle, later start BG again and responde with the battles outcome as a predefined reply)
The battle would probably be a historical battle or part of a historical campain that you can create yourself.

    2. RPG
You can not reprensent your BG Char on a Total War battlefield. You might come close using a Kensai or a high honor high armored unit with 1 soldier.
Alternatively you can say your chars are part of one high profile unit on the battlefield (maybe the generals).
All in all the player wont be able to fight with his individual Character no matter what you try.
    3. Theme
The biggest drawback to date in Total War is that we still dont have the abillity to change unit graphics. Though maybe the people working on the bifeditor will make it finaly possible, we are stuck with Samurai and Mongol Units for now.
This will not be a problem though if you plan your BG Mod in an oriental theme.

OK hope I could help, and I would be very interrested in your progress Delasiath
