Thread: Faction Traits

  1. #1

    Default Faction Traits

I know this topic has been visited and revisited, but I am still not clear on what changing the faction trait will have on game play. For example I just heard that if I change faction X trait to Comfortable Napoleon, they will do better and last much longer. Anyone has any idea on which factions need what traits. I want to see a game where it is not just between the human player and 3 roman factions at the end. Any help on this issue or any other suggestions to make certain factions ( i.e. Gauls, Greeks, Seleucids..) more durable is greatly appreciated.

the faction traits define what a faction builds and how it develops, the first word defining its development pattern and the second word defining its military behaviour. Comfortable napoleon has been proven by research to be the most suitable for most balanced-army factions in ensuring army quality and hence survivability, whereas the horsearcher factions would use genghis instead of napoleon. Go trawl around in ludus magna sometime, you will find the thread somewhere detailing this. Or can someone post it again to help out this guy?

    Thanks.

I actually took pezhetairoi advice and "trawled around in ludus magna", and found that thread. It does sound good but did anyone actually try that and got some good results? There has to be certain traits that are more suitable for certain factions, I am just sick of fighting Romans all the time. I know all of us agree that all factions have the potential to be the strongest faction in the game. Why is it then that the end of the game is always you and three Roman factions (unless you took care of the Romans earlyn on). I was wondering if changing the AI personalities would help. Thanks for your help, guys.

Craftsman Caesar is a trait that worked fine for the seleucids. Generally I think just changing the trait to anything else than the original helps.

As for the romans you can give them -99999999 denarii, and/or give away their regions(capital not possible) to Rebels or neighbouring factions.

Once I managed to destroy the House of Julii the very first turn without lifting a finger.

Mmm, because otherwise, brandy, factions would not behave as they jolly well did in history. For example, in history we didn't have a Parthia that pumped out infantry forces. If they had they would have long ago been overrun by Rome. They pumped out horsearchers and caraphracts, but without modding RTW would never had reflected that. You would have had Parthia with crap-infantry-centric armies, whereas after modding the Parthian east is now a much more dangerous place to be with clouds of horsemen shooting you to bits. It's more historically realistic, and definitely much more challenging.

While we appreciate the work that went into it, we can't just leave it as it is... come, it's the aim of every faithful gamer to tinker with the game to make it better than the work that the creators've put in. NO ONE leaves the game as it is because we always see more room for improvement once we play it.

    Update

I actually tried that and I change most interesting factions to comfortable napoleon, except for HA ones which i changed to genghis. I can tell you the results are fantastic. The Seleucids rule the east, Pontus is their protectorate. Carthage is alive and kicking around in north africa, even invading the Juli settlement is south France. The only disappointment is the Gauls, they're just not meant to win.

    Thanks a lot guys.
