personally i think that us kids should get out more as a general rule, i do! and i still find time to play on RTW.
And about walking everywhere, and to those who object.....try having a party, doing some under-age drinking and then decide to walk the five miles from Castletown to port erin at 1:00 in the morning, we did it in about half an hour....it was great, pity the chinese was closed hmmm.
so maybe some modern conviniences do make us fatter, prettier and darn it wussier than the days of yore, but we also get out, have fun and learn about life in our own unique way. Anyway, in the 1950's did you want to go back to the nineteenth century?
p.s If anybody asks, It wasnt my party we were at Ok?

Good thing I am at work - so I am not willing to try a search on the internet for that term. (I am sure it brings sites up that will get me in trouble at work - given the nature of your warning.)

Too bad you can't see it underneath all that clothing...remembering back to the pasty white people around me when I worked up north in Alaska. Er... you do relaise that the kids you are describing are the ones who grew up to make the world we live in today right? The world you don't seem to like much. For example, its all very well decrying the "kids of today" but they are your kids, so what have you done wrong?
"Put 'em in blue coats, put 'em in red coats, the bastards will run all the same!"
"The English are a strange people....They came here in the morning, looked at the wall, walked over it, killed the garrison and returned to breakfast. What can withstand them?"
Shhhh...Slyspy, you aren't supposed to mention that part...
Remember, we are all screwed up because of Mario and Link and Rap. It has nothing to do with negiligent parents.
(Just to make sure, this is not directed at any forum patrons. God knows all of you that are old enough seem to be smart enough to raise good kids. I am talking about the parents of the sociopaths that give my friends and I a bad name.)

Not to mention it's idiots who were born in the 50's-70's that are coming up with "No Failure" policies for today's children. So great lot of good the lack of video games did you.
We must've peaked in the Victorian Age. Let's send today's children back into the coal mines.

I'm all for it. My kid should be out of the oven in about 6 months, I nominate we start with him. He'll have 9 months of freeloading to work off already, let alone the expenses will incur at the hospital on his behalf. Assuming it's a boy. I actually think it's a girl, in which case all bets are off. My darling princessshall never lift a finger in toil in her life.

Most of you people cannot imagine how different the US has become in the last 50 years. To me its a different country than the one I grew up in. Its hard to believe that I have actually wittnessed personaly one quarter of this nations history.

Maybe thats what youve been led to believe. I actually have lived throught it. Dont go trying to tell me it was a myth. If you werent there you cannot imagine the difference. No, that is a myth.

I can, and it's a myth. Any parent who let a child walk alone threw a city any city in any time is a neglegent parent. I really would like to know where these myths about safety of the 50's and early 60's came from. My mom says her parents never locked the doors at night when they were home. But my dad says they did and they couldn't leave cloths on the line over night cause half of them would be gone by morning.

We never locked our doors when we were home. Now my dad even has a deadbolt on his bedroom door. I used to walk around Brooklyn all the time when I was like 8. I mean you were only allowed up to the coner store or the nearest park but by the time I was 11 or 12 I could go pretty much where I pleased.I can, and it's a myth. This aint just in the Sixties man, come to the isle of Man....it ROCKS!!! theres almost no serious crime (we get like one murder for two years or sumitng like that) you can go out all night with no worries, and theres no speed limit outside of towns and we STILL have a low car accident death rate. I'm tellin ay, if you want the good old days then come here, but there are some old grannies that are terrified by whats going on in Enlgand etc where kids mug them and stuff, so now if i where a hoodie then i get dirty looks from all the adults...i'm tellin ya there are some kids out there that are giving the ret of us a bad name...BLOODY CHAVS!!!!!!!Originally Posted by Gawain of Orkeny

WE are far less free today than we were in the 50s. People just dont realise how the government has crept into society and has their finger in everybodies buissiness.

Right on kiwitt , I can't believe I survived but am so thankful that I wasn't born 20 years later.
Unfortunately you probably took pride in taking this cheap shot. Sorry for you.Originally Posted by lars573

We are a lot smarter and more daring then any other generation. Yeah we have more obesity etc, etc..., but if we choose to we can do whatever. A choice the preveous generation didn't have, and if they did, they'd end worse then us, because they wouldn't be able to deal with it.
Case in point, when kiwitt wrote a post celebrating all of the things that made our generation stronger, you replied with a series of (unfunny) smartass comments that highlighted your ignorance. Proved him right you did. Not only did you miss the entire point of his thread, but you came off looking like a child, unable to appreciate anything other than himself.
LMAOI think Byzantine Prince has a little generational inferiority complex...

Exceptions being
-My mom never drank or had any desire to until my younger brother was in his teens
-My mom refused to feed us 3 kids white bread, it was always whole weat (better for ya.)
-It's been illegal to ride in a car with out a seat belt in Canada (federal law) for nearly 40 years
-I've always hated playing outside, I prefered to be in my sandbox building castles and only for an hour
-I grew up in the city so there were limits to how far I could roam until I was a teen
-We didn't get a NES in my household till I was 9
-We were never alowed a BB gun 1 because mom didn't like them and 2 because she knew little brother would try and kill me with it

Lars, I don't expect you to understand, but that comment is rude, mean, insulting, and essentially added nothing to the discussion. As a matter of fact, it took a nice nostalgic piece and turned it to rancor. So, you want a medal or a chest to pin it on?
You can make excuses about where you're from or the quality of your upbringing, but it is was wrong.
Think about it, please
