Thread: BI Faction Modding...

  1. #1

    Default BI Faction Modding...

This is taken from the Official FAQ over at the .com:

"Q: Are there any plans for a built-in mod management function with BI or future expansions?

A: There will be a command line -mod function that allows you to redirect the game to use a different set of data without having to replace the original files and - with multiple shortcuts on your desktop all using different -mod redirects - have more than one mod on your PC at once *without* having multiple installations of the game. This will be fully explained in the readme documentation that will ship with the expansion pack. Overall, you'll find that modding support has been substantially improved, especially in the way that factions can be modded."

Sounds kind of interesting, doesn't it?

The -mod command line already exists:

As for improvements in overall modding support, well it would be nice.

Hopefully they'll improve the -mod switch though, expanding what files it looks for and fixing the no-custom battles.

What was the problem with no-custom battles?

yeah but it's kinda useless for anything but the smallest mods. For example you can't use modified animation files. If the new -mod parameter actualy makes the game use another folder as if it were the data folder that would be excellent - and I think that's what Shogun is saying here.

The biggest benefit I would like to see would be the absence of a Senate faction, combined with Roman linked factions. MY understanding is that BI won't have this to start with, which should make factions easier to modify. They will cease to be 'linked' and be independant.
