Epistolary Richard's modding Rules of CoolCool modders make their mods with the :mod command line switch
If they don't, then Cool mod-users use the Mod Enabler (JSGME)
Cool modders use show_err
Cool modders use the tutorials database
Cool modders check out the Welcome to the Modding Forums! thread
Cool modders keep backups
Cool modders help each other out
Hopefully they'll improve the -mod switch though, expanding what files it looks for and fixing the no-custom battles.

yeah but it's kinda useless for anything but the smallest mods. For example you can't use modified animation files. If the new -mod parameter actualy makes the game use another folder as if it were the data folder that would be excellent - and I think that's what Shogun is saying here.The -mod command line already exists:

The biggest benefit I would like to see would be the absence of a Senate faction, combined with Roman linked factions. MY understanding is that BI won't have this to start with, which should make factions easier to modify. They will cease to be 'linked' and be independant.
