Wow. Im very impressed. I never even knew this forum was here. This is great stuff. I love the artwork and everything. This is quite a find for me. Anyway. I just wanted to post up a quick little read i wrote a few days back to see what people thought. I hope you enjoy it.
Without a Word
The breeze is cold. It blows past me ruffling the edges of my clothes and sending the dusty waves of my hair into fluttering disarray. I feel it slip effortlessly through the weave of the fabric even as it presses the shirt tightly back against my chest. It’s a penetrating breeze. The kind of breeze that shoots right through you and makes you feel naked. I shudder and grip the cold steel of the railing behind me tighter to keep my precarious balance.
I’m not quite ready yet.
Despite the chilling gray dampness of the surrounding air my palms sweat uncontrollably. I let go of the railing for an instant to reassert my grip. The wind almost sweeps me out in that moment but I manage to find the railing again and grasp it even tighter. My hands ache from the strain but I can’t let go;
I’m not ready yet.
The wind picks up and it burns as it bites past the raw skin of my tear-streaked face. The sky is almost overwhelming. It glowers at me through its muted grayness squelching my unwhispered pleas for solace even before I can scarcely acknowledge their presence swelling inside my chest and pouring out through my uplifted downcast eyes. It will rain soon. You can feel it coming when you breathe in the air. It’ll be quite a storm. I take a deep breath. I take it slow to let my heightened senses probe every quality of it. The air tastes acrid and metallic as it filters over my tongue and fills my chest. The dampness weighs down my lungs like lead.
Now I’m ready.
I take one last glance into the overbearing sky to reaffirm the resolve in the corners of my eyes as I let go of the railing. I lean forward slightly from the scant inches of cement that have supported me and with a hint of defiance in the base of my spine I cast my eyes to the frothing darkness of the waves below. Gravity captures my momentum and redoubles it as I cut through the wind and the gray. I watch without thought as the waves dash themselves against each other and work themselves into a fervid frenzy in gleeful anticipation of my arrival.
A blink.
The frigid water presses my clothes back against my body even as it tears right through the fabric and penetrates to the center of my soul. Its touch is withering as it caresses my life with a quenched satisfaction. The water's countless eyes drain forth my spirit as its touch comforts my limbs. The water beckons me without a word. Or is that death? No matter. I searched for both and now my soul strides forth without a word in reply.
Please note: I am in no way contemplating suicide, depressed, emo, goth, or any other such thing. Im not sure at all where the inspiration for the story came from. I guess i just liked the image it made in my head.
