Saladin's Historical Campaign

Man I think his campaign is the hardest out of all them. I'm stuck at his 2nd battle. I remember beating it before and coudln't beat the last (3rd) battle...
for those of u who beat the 2nd battle, how'd u do it?? It's easy for me to kill the whole army except for the 100 Royal Knights! The Royal knights kill like 60% of my army....

I've just played saladin 1 and 2 and skimmed through them easily.

For 1 I marched my infantry over to the knights attacking my cavalry, except I reacted too late and the knights charged into my cavalry and engaged 3 units, but i managed to pull out some horse archers, the enemy general chased them and tired himself out.

I charged my main force cavalry over and managed to kill the knights there except for the general who was still chasing my horse archers.

I regrouped and formed up behind my camp and flanked the enemy, the xhaustedenemy general began walking after some camel archers and was later flanked and killed.

For 2, I charged my horse archers up to the enemy line and began firing. They killed loads of infantry, but after a while things beganto get cimplicated and I accidentaly let some horse archers become surrounded by enemy knights I harassed them some more, then marched my army up to an elevation near the enemy army and began harassing them again. The horse archers fired apon some of the advancing troops for a while. The french never attacked directly, they just sent a few archers and knights forward and I took advantage of a few situations and managed to charge down a unitof archers and flank a unit of feudal knights.

Eventually the enemy began to attempt to counter my successes, so i just charged my spearmen and ghazi infantry forward and sent my melee cavalry around the flanks and my horse archers round to the rear. To deal with the 100 royal knights I charge some melee camels forward whom sufferred somewhat, but I managed to charge into their rear with some alan mercenary cavalry and surround them.

I ve finished all the Historical campaigns. Saladin's 2 is the horns of Hittin isn't it? I think your strategy will work like a charm. If I can recall, the 100 RKs didn;t charge untill it was too late, most french were dead and King Guy was flanked

In the 2nd battle, I put in reserve 100 Saracen infarty and 60 general's unit (I don't remember were them Ghulam or Mamluk cavarly) and use them only when neccessary. My plan was to kill infarty (especially Hospittaler foot knights) with my Turcoman horse ans Mamluk horse archers), put Bedouins in front of Templars. I managed to repel all French attacks by using peasents, muhawids, ghazi, alans and saharan cav with the little help of Saladin's Mamluk cav. Then I attacked Templars witk Bedouins and 2 unit of Turcomans. After the Templars ran away, French used their last reserve- 100 Royal knights. I attacked them with my reserve units and Bedouins from the flank. Eventually 90% of RK were killed, the rest escaped tfom battlefield.

The 3rd battle was a complete slaughter. Most of my units were killed by Templars, RK or Hospittalers. I ran through the battlefield with 60 Saladin's Ghulam bodyguards. I was vrey lucky because GB won in every battle (even captured French king), and suddenly 200 French infarty started to ran away. However, where my GB weren't figthing, French cavaly killed 70% of my army . In the end of the battle, I had 17 GB, 16 Saracen infarty and 13 Mamluk HA, and French had 27 Templars and 46 Italian infarty. I was lucky again, when the number of Italian inf came to 30, they began to run away (don't know how my 16 Saracen inf killed 16 of 46 Italian inf without a single loss ). Also, Templars suddenly got demoralised when GB attacked their flank , so they escaped too.

Wait until you play the last Richard the Lionheart mission. If you think Salidin's were hard, wait for that, it's ridiculous.

I do the exact same thing, except they wont attack me when I go to that one cliff close to them....and my men fight the royal knights for like 3 secs and then run away.....

The Jerusalem Walls isn't it? Where you r back against the wall and the eggys keep pouring over the ridge.
I know it seems desperate, but I ve played it twice and never lost it. I m amazed even myself, I really stink as a commander, but the spearmen seem to be invincible against all eggys mounted units..

My hardest battle is the one that Barbarossa's royal knights need to defeat hordes of Italian infantry and you lose if 60% of your troops root. Damn, I ve only made it once, by killing both enemy generals really fast, I ve lost a thousand times though and I m not trying it again.

Out of all of the battles in Saladin's and Richard's campaigns, I still think that the third and final Saladin battle is the hardest. This is because right at the beginning, the French are right on top of you, and no matter what you do, some of your army will be overrun.

After several tries, I managed to win by withdrawing as much of my good infantry (such as spearmen) and cavalry up the hill, while leaving my lesser-quality troops and those who couldn't escape to delay the French. When the French cavalry attacked my re-formed line, I was able to beat them back.

The second battle (Hattin) is not that difficult if you are patient. If you harass the French for a while with your horse archers, they will grow tired and suffer serious losses. When you launch your main and final attack, their infantry should not stand for long. This will allow you to isolate, outflank, and destroy their knights as long as you get the right unit matchups: use your spears to pin them, then flank them with camels and cavalry. They will inflict casualties on your army no matter what, but they can be destroyed.

Richard's final battle, Jaffa, is not very difficult either. All you have to do is entrench your forces in strong defensive positions, using the city walls to your advantage (they can block the enemy's access to your rear and one flank, while some spearmen refuse the other flank). Let your bowmen inflict as many casualties as possible as the Egyptians approach, then counter-charge when the enemy is close enough, targetting their general if possible. Put them to flight, but do not pursue too far. Just beat them back as many times as they approach.

Though 9 valour gold swords and shields will do wonders in those situations.

I agree... Actually, one look at the minimap was enough to erase all hope out of me. But I said "what the heck, since I ve loaded the damn thing, I 'll just give it a shot".
I guess the Walls of Jerusalem are an exellent example of the value of an upgrated arsenal .

I've been trying to win this battle, but i can't. My RK win italian infarty, but on the other front papacy alwayskills 60% of my army. 60 infarty and 60 cav cannot protect 300 archers

I 've sent the 2 medium divisions of RKs to assist the archers, the small RK division to route the sailors on my rear and I manoevered Barbarossa himself round the IIs to the General. When he died, there was mayhem. The Greenies were running alltogether

Noo... I don't think so. Such a hard demo fight...It wouldn't be sales-encouraging ...

I don't pass the Hattin battle.... It's so damn hard because the Royal Knights kill my army.....

The first battle is so easy....

I wonder if I can mod the game so I can have different troops for Hattin or make the victorious without fighting....

I found Lionheart's to be the easiest of the lot.

The one where you have a load of cavalry (Road to Ratae or something) is actually quite easy. Have your mounted crossbows run over to the enemy flank. The entire enemy army will wheel around and go after them. Then send your Knights in and hit from the flan and rear. Simple, but murderously effective.
