If you're speaking about the Necronomicon from the Cthulhu Mythos, it was been invented by H.P. Lovecraft. This book, aswell as many other books that appear in a novel related to the Ancients and Great Ancients (De Vermis Mysteris, Cult of the Undead, the Unhausprigen Culten (sp?) were created by the writters.

    Anyway, check wikipedia : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satanis...gious_Satanism

I've met people who actually believe that the Necronomicon exists or did exist. They are completely unable to accept that it was invented entirely by H.P. Lovecraft to give depth to his stories, in much the same way that Tolkien concocted a massive background for his stories. Even shown proof, their ears cease to hear and their eyes glaze over. Arguing with true believers is always an exercise in futility.

Just to get clear - I am NOT satanist, as was said above, all I wanted were some books, also about Necronomicon - I heard about it - maybe there is the book which is not connected with Lovecraft and that book, you mentioned.

But as for your orginial question - not about the Necronomicon - but Satanism. A google search using the term Satanism will bring up mutliple hits.

Well as far as everything I have ever read - the book Necronomicon was made up by Lovecraft - and used by other writters to give a little more depth to their stories.

However you could be thinking about this type of web site and the information that they wish to have people believe

    http://www.digital-brilliance.com/ne...ecron.htm#What

The Necronomicon of Alhazred, (literally: "Book of Dead Names") is not, as is popularly believed, a grimoire, or sorcerer's spell-book. It was conceived as a history, and hence "a book of things now dead and gone". An alternative derivation of the word Necronomicon gives as its meaning "the book of the customs of the dead", but again this is consistent with the book's original conception as a history, not as a work of necromancy.

The author of the book shared with Madame Blavatsky a magpie-like tendency to garner and stitch together fact, rumour, speculation, and complete balderdash, and the result is a vast and almost unreadable compendium of near-nonsense which bears more than a superficial resemblance to Blavatsky's The Secret Doctrine.

In times past the book has been referred to guardedly as Al Azif , and also The Book of the Arab. Azif is a word the Arabs use to refer to nocturnal insects, but it is also a reference to the howling of demons (Djinn). The Necronomicon was written in seven volumes, and runs to over 900 pages in the Latin edition.

If the Necronomicon legend continues to grow, people will end up believing it and accusing me of faking when I point out the true origin of the thing!
-- H.P. Lovecraft (cited in Harms and Gonce, 47).
The author here claims that Lovecraft made fact into fiction. Its somewhat an interesting read because of this arguement.

If you read the articles and then think about them a little - one can come to two different conclusions.

That the Necronomicon is indeed a fiction made up by Lovecraft by using several different myths and fables to form a basis for some of his horror books.

Or that the Necronomicon was was written in Damascus in 730 A.D. by Abdul Alhazred. (Which is the source quoted in Lovecraft's Books).

Its a vicous little cycle that those who want to believe in the existance of such a book - can not fanthom or ackownledge.

Oh, I wasn't calling you a Satanist, IliaDN. My apologies if it seemed that way. I was just remarking on the dogmatism which attends belief in the accuracy of the book. I've met people who claimed with absolute certainty that Miskatonic University in Arkham, Massachusetts, which Lovecraft claimed had a copy of the book, actually existed in New England, even though it doesn't, nor does Arkham.

A telling fact is simply that the Necronomicon, as it exists in real book form, has no publish date earlier than the 1970's. That should tell you something. As a reading intensive child in the 1960's and a teenager in the 1970's, I can speak to the fact that Lovecraft's popularity became widespread during this time, with his stories and books appearing in many paperback editions, as well as those of others in his circle, such as August Derleth and Robert Bloch. The horror genre was just getting started and gaining mass appeal. Someone took advantage of that and published a book called the Necronomicon and the gullible soon snapped it up.
