Thread: What is going on?

    Default What is going on?

I was playing Rome Total War and I got past alot of turns. Then my faction (julii) started losing money. At this time I did not know there where Cheat Codes to help. But I got to -124 Dennerii. I looked at the charts and all the other factions where rich (compared to my Faction). Then before I knew it 5 Factions where attacking me at one time. Then lost those 5 cities. Then 8 Factions attacked me all at one time. I lost those 8 cities. The bad part was that i was still -100 Dennerii. So i could not hire any more troops or build any more buildings or worse walls. So then about 15 of my cities rebeled. My faction died just as i had 20 dennerii.

did you have your taxes maxed out?
    did you build roads?
did you build trade buildings of any kind?
    did you build ports?
did you establish trade routes with other factions?
did you sell your map information for cash?
    did you build farms?

the start of the game is all about building up your economy. once this is done, you can usually start expanding fairly rapidly. you dont' have to do all of these things at once, but piece by piece it all adds up.

How exactly do you get attacked by 8 factions at once? You'd need some pretty strange borders to have that many neighbours. Anyway, if your treasury drops to the negatives, you should do the following:

    1. Examine each of your governors for bad traits that reduce income. If they have those traits, remove them from the cities. A city without a governor can bring more income than a city with a corrupt, lazy gov.

    2. Disband unneeded soldiers. Army wages are probably the biggest expense for your faction, so getting rid of any units that aren't absolutely necessary at the moment will help. Mercenaries in particular can be expensive to upkeep.

    3. Make sure your diplomatic relations are well. Getting trade rights with all those neighbouring factions that you aren't at war with is very important.

If all else fails and you absolutely need to make some denarii ASAP, you can destroy buildings in your cities. This will net you some money (not as much as it had cost to build them though) that you can use to recruit troops. Just don't go and trash you unit recruitment buildings though!

RTW, 167 BC: Rome expels Greek philosophers after the Lex Fannia law is passed. This bans the effete and nasty Greek practice of 'philosophy' in favour of more manly, properly Roman pursuits that don't involve quite so much thinking.
