Question Buildings specific to location and faction

Hi, does anybody know how to make buildings specific to locations and faction. Eg if i wanted to make a macedonian royal Palace specific to the city of Pella in Macedonia, how would this be possible? is it possible?

Also how is it possible to create units that have several types of soldier in them? Eg if i wanted to MOD a medieval Swiss formation, which had half pike and half halberds, with the front rank heavily armoured and the rest unarmoured would this be possible?

Also, can units be modded with more than two types of weapons? I am thinking of the Greek Theuripohoroi which had javelins, Long 12ft spears and swords as a side arm.

    With thanks

AFAIK, region specific buildings are not possible in M:TW. Mixed units is a no-no, and so is multiple arms.

R:TW has hidden recources making you able to limit units to certain places, for example Spartan Hoplites, though I don't know if you can limit buildings with hidden resources. Should be possible, since Mines are limited by ordinary resources.

Anyhow, threads like this belongs at the modding forums, right? Right?

MTW allows you to restrict UNIT building to both a specific province and to a specific faction. For example, Gallowglasses and Kerns only in Ireland, or HIghland Clansmen only in Scotland and, in both cases, only for Catholic factions. Berber Camels are Almohad only, Turcoman Horse and Ottoman/JHI are Turkish only and so on.

If you have a specific unit type in mind then you should be able to set its construction conditions to Faction 'X' + Region 'Y' + (generic) Royal Palace.

I suppose it would be nice to have a faction-specific menu graphic for the customised Royal Palace and it has to be said that MTW uses three diferent ones already, so this ought to be possible. However, strictly speaking, it's completely unnecessary for the purposes of the game and you can always use an existing building style and a little imagination.

As per previous reply, probably not. On the other hand, you could always make the sub-units separately buildable then just deploy and group them on the battlefield in such a way as to work as you described (Ctrl-clicks, G to group, then select 2-line formation). The handicap there is that you'd only be able to build the sub-units in alternate years, which obviously isn't what you're after. Then again, if they really are such a 'killer' unit, they ought to have a 2-year build time anyway, sort of like Byzantine Varangian Guard units, so as to retain some balance in the game.

Again, as stated probably not. It's possible the AI hard-coding can only cope with two weapons or modes of engagement at a time, per unit. Choice between missile and meleé action is simple enough (it's forced by the user or by enemy action in any case) but a whole extra algorithm would be required to make decisions about which, of three, is the best for the unit to emply, at any given time. Somehow, I doubt tweaking just the datafiles is enough to bring this about.

What with all the encumberance of multiple weapons, had you considered giving them a slight penalty on their movement speeds, shave off 1-2 mph, say?

Given that there's no shortage of spear units in the game already, I'd suggest making them into a javalinmen unit, so that you'd get control over the skirmish icon during battles (note how it greys out for spear/sword types) but give them good swordsman-type melee ability - the existing jav types are apparently quite weak in this area. As you probably know, the fundamental classification as skirmisher will affect where they get positioned in the default battle formations.

Again, I suppose you have the option of creating two varieties for this unit type, same price, same maint cost but different names. One blending spear/sword, which will appear in your main battle line and the other blending jav/sword, which will be out on the flanks, in skirmisher mode.

@lilljonas agreed, this belongs in modding forum, if it's to attract technical answers of any use to the asker.
General discussion about special unit types and their abilites belongs in here as much as anywhere, I suppose.
