Thumbs up MP campaign approaching release - beta underway

The first complete version of our MP campaign is starting private beta testing by General Sun's beta testing team right now.

You may know that this was suggested by Swoosh So who made it work manually using console commands in the unpatched version.

Then I helped to try to use a script to replace the console commands, and Freak of Nature to make the exchange system.

This proved harder than expected and so it sort of faded away.

When this thread was revived not that long ago and player1 posted his faction switcher, I was reminded of this project and decided to finish it. Its currently about to start testing and so you can expect a release relatively soon.

I also have a system planned for implementing battles, but that will have to be for a later release and so for this version all battles should be auto-resolved.

Hope this helps keep you up to date

Sounds very cool, will BI make it easier since it unlocks the console commands? Or have you totally got around that already?

Ah, good to see there's still a chance of a proper MP campaign for RTW. I thought everyone had given up, even thought it was so close. BI wont be a problem though, will it? It could change some console commands so you might have to rework it.

From the CA FAQ's that have been posted I doubt that the console commands will change, either in syntax or having more activated, so if it's good for RTW then it should be good for BI.

Cool Re: MP campaign approaching release - beta underway

If you are interested in additional beta testing I have a small LAN up and running. We have always wanted to play a mp campaign and I have some very experienced RTW players to test this new mod with. We also have some programming and scripting experience and we are used to beta test unfinished products. We really want to contribute to this great project!

Appropriate feedback will be posted in this forum or wherever you want.

Please PM me if you are interested.

Well actually the current system works through the net, not lan, but maybe well make a lan version. If you have some programming experience you might be able to help me with the later version where battles will be playable. Interested?

Well, this idea is just awesome! If you guys can get a lan version of the multiplayer campaign working, together with full playable battles ... I will build a temple in your names!

This is great. I've wanted to play MP campaigns ever since I first got MTW.

How long do you think until the release?

EDIT: Also, if you do pull this off, can we have it for use at CTW?

As with all of my scripts (exept the wot one of course ), as far as I'm concerned they are free for use by anyone and any mod so long as credits are given and I'm informed. I'll have to check with FoN, but I'm sure he'll agree with me.

Ah, good. So how will this multiplayer campaign work? Will the other player's turn take place when their faction shows up at the top? Also, how did you make a scipt that enabled a game to be played over the net? I imagine that would be excruciatingly difficult, if not impossible.

    Congrats on 2000 posts btw.

Myrdraal> is it possible to incorporate the auto-AI for your side in battles? It'd be interesting in LAN games where neither of the players have any control over the units on the battlefield, as they just hope their general would do fine. It'd be neat too since it'd be like watching a game/war on TV.

howe could i miss this thread?

    first of all - HUUURAY
you don't mind if i name my kids after you guys ?

i've been waiting for something like this since i got mtw and i have a few questions:

you wrote that all battles should be auto resolved. is this true for player vs ai battles too?

will players be able to fight alongside each other against the ai or another player in future versions - i'm curious because i don't know if this is possible in rtw at all.

will the player be able to use diplomacy (the most basics would be enough i guesss)

will it be compatible with mods (vanilla rtw might be too unbalanced for mp e.g. the romans)

will it use rtws terrible matchmaking service (sigh) for arranging games or can we play on lan too (greatly preferred)

and most important - when will it be released?

You could add a time limit for every human player. if hes in a battle he got like 5 min before defeat. Or maybe the time limit could be set by some option

So you dont have to wait 2 hours for the other one to finish all his moves.

i dont know just a thought. Great work Myrddraal btw keep up :)

    Myddraal's Multiplayer Campaign Mod
Yesterday September 27, 2005, 7-9 PM GMT-5 was one of the most momentous moments of my life.

No I did not get Barbarian Invasion, and probably won’t for more than a few weeks. No I did not win the lottery, what I did get was an MSN message from Myddraal, my personal god of modding. He was there to ask me to test the latest version of his multiplayer campaign mod with him. This fateful day, I had some free time. After a few mishaps in file transferring, I finally have the mod loaded in my computer with Rome: Total War copied to a fresh directory.

After a few quibbles, the mod was installed and the game loaded. At this time, I find out that Myddraal has misplaced his Rome: Total War CD. I was frustrated but relieved when Myddraal suggested that I play against myself. With the mod installed, I booted up the game and started as Julii as per instructions. I made a move and saved the game. I loaded the game up, and oh my god, I start as the Brutii. The Julii made the exact same move I did! With this excitement, I quickly loaded my Brutii troops into my boat, landed across the strait onto the Illyrian coast. Then I moved the boat under the heel of Italy next to the starting city.

Next load, as Scipii, the boat is under the heel of Italy right where I put it and everything else was the same as I did.

I was ecstatic. Imagine the possibilities, imagine the potential. The Generals Collective will definitely be on the front line of hosting the first MP Campaigns.

I asked Myddraal afterwards about donations for the Modding God. He declined any monetary donations, stating that the best help would be for him to get a few extra modders for his mod, WoT, or Wheel of Time: Total War.

I am going to do something that I haven’t done for a long time, use caps to scream my message:

MODDERS PLEASE HELP MYDDRAAL WITH WHEEL OF TIME. This man is a GOD and deserves all the help he can get.

okay..sorry if I sound really stupid or something but I'm kind of confused. I went to the link that general sun posted which is "http://www.generalscollective.com/mpcamp/install.php"
I just don't know exactly what I'm suppose to do from there. I'm thinking the download version isnt out yet? I didn't quiet understand the intruction that was posted under "Multiplayer Campaign: Technical Details, Installation Instructions" Do I have to wait until the download comes out or..I just don't know. I'm sorry if i sound pathetic or something but i've waiting so MP campaign for soooooo long time and I'm just so excited!
    Thanks guys!
