The series has started 2 months ago in France, and although I usually hate the series we can watch every summers, I think this one is really great.

The characters are all interesting. Some looks like people we would never meet in real life (John Locke, Jack, Sawyer), but there are also some who at fist appear to be really 'lambda' people (Hurley, the star wars geek, Shannon, the annoying little b****).

Actually, I think I'll turn mad if I don't understand wtf is happening on this island in the next saturday 3 episodes.

What's your opinion about this series ?

If there's already a topic about Lost, sorry, but I found nothing with the search option

yes , I've been following the series closely- and I really like it.
In fact it's the only serie I've been following in a really long time...

In Holland it'll be on the tv again in about 3 weeks -I think, so I will deffinatley watch it again.

I love Lost. My favorite TV series ever. I can't wait until the next season starts. Don't expect to many answers, though at the end there are some.
My favorite characters are Hurley, Charlie, Sawyer, and Locke is very... intersting. Jack is too bossy. Oh, and I like Kate...

3 episodes on one night? I guess France is catching up to the series’ season 2 which starts 21st of September this year.
I can say it is the one show I followed earlier this year. That is until I regretfully missed an episode and had to download it from the Internet.

It's a great show about 41 (or so) people who crash land on a wierd ass island. The great part is, every episode they have flashbacks for one of the character to help explain how he/she is there, and why he/she is how they are.

I love "Lost" too. It's in re-runs in the US right now, but my girlfriend still has it on religiously every week. Great characters, interesting, original, overall great show.

By the way, where are you guys (plotwise) in France (and elsewhere)? Just wondering because I don't want to give anything away that you haven't seen yet.

well in Holland we're at the part where a loty of the characters ( all of them maybe ? ) have had their episode.
The last one was IIRC where Boon got his episode...but that's what I think , Kind of forgot where we were.

    Don't flatter yourself...
We are all in the same boat (yeah, that includes Americans) waiting for season 2 to start this September.

[edit]: It seems you can flatter yourself a little, reading the posts after yours it becomes obvious that not all of the European nations have aired all of season 1.
    Maybe they are re-runs?

In France, I think we just had the episodes #19, 20 and 21 saturday.
The last one title is "Do no harm" in english.

And yeah, John Locke is awesome. If I wasn't supposed to turn into a Ninja later (cause they have the ultimate power), I would probably turn into a John Locke.

My only complain is Jack, this guy is just too good. I guess they had to have some charismatic and smart hunk to lead the band.

Now, I'm quite annoyed because I missed episodes 1,2,3 and 13, 14, 15. Hopefully, I'll find them on the net. Otherwise, I'll wait for the soon-to-be-released DVD.

I've seen bits and pieces of this show. I have this theory(not a spoiler, just a guess) that they are all in either purgatory or hell. I remember reading about a play that had a group of castaways learning they were in hell. Maybe that idea was used.

I officially hate ABC. The way they are doing reruns suck. I mean, they were going all in order, then went from episode 9, skipped 10, and went to 11 last week. This week, it's the 14th episode. What? Cancel all that stupid reality crap, and show us all of the reruns!

    It depends.
If you're American, have HDTV and a digital recorder you
can make an excellent digital recording. This is as legal as
recording on VHS-tape. If you happen to miss the air-date and download the episode, I don't see that you're doing something illegal. You're only
using a different source for something you could've done yourself.

Another example would be if you're English and the BBC, which you pay for
as a british citizen, broadcasts something. In that case I'd argue that it's
public property of all British citizens. (Same goes for German puplic TV.)

If you're Scandinavian or German and download American TV episodes right
after they aired in the US....well that's illegal I'm afraid.

As a Scandinavian I downloaded an episode that I missed when it was aired here in Norway (we were only a couple of episodes behind the US in season 1). Was that illegal? If not, at which point does it become illegal? Which law is broken? Distributing material that has been broadcasted, is that really illegal?

    It's a grey area.
Currently we've a war going on between the record and film industry on the one hand
and the programmers of p2p software and their users on the other hand. The media industry argues that
since the content of p2p networks can hardly be surveilled and is used to distribute copyrighted material.
The p2p lobby argues that providing the technology is not a crime, filesharing helps to distribute open
source material and, contrary to the industry's claims, p2p networks actually increase the amount of
legally bought material and its market value by increasing its popularity.
The main focus of the media industry was initially on Music (Napster, Kazaa). When technology
improved and transmission of larger files became feasible, the crusade against p2p started to include
    Movies.
The sharing of TV-series was overlooked for a long time. It seems the industry jsut only realized
how much series are shared a few months ago. When they did they forced a few sites off the net.
The fair use argument in one of my above posts is dismissed by the industry because it's impossible to
reduce sharing to a certain group of "authorized" people.
In your case it means that yes, it was illegal to download that file. That is from a perspective of a lawyer
of the film/ movie industry. They would argue that their copyright was infringed.
You could argue that the episode had been aired anyway and that you easily could have made a digital copy
if you hadn't missed it. In both cases you would own a digital copy.
See the proplem here? (Btw, I've no idea how Norway handles it. In Russia you've allofmp3.com where
you can get almost any music for very little money. Copyright doesn't really exist in Russia and
other states are quite pissed that there's no possiblity to stop the Russians)

It's my personal opinion that we, as consumers, finance the broadcasted series. As soon as it's aired
it becomes public property of the consumers. For me there's no point in waiting for the free-tv-premiere
which is badly syncronized, when I can get the original format, enjoy it and improve my english.

So, the industry generally sees p2p sharing as illegal, different nations have different copyright regulations, or
none at all. Concerning the fair use argument, downloading is illegal when the respective program has not
been broadcasted in your country. In case of other files you need an original in your possession before
you're allowed to download a digital copy of it. And even then......

Rubbish B movie nonsense, trying to be a neo con allegory for the US. Lets all rediscover our pioneer spirit. Plus they need to hire a school kid studying GCSE physics to explain what's likely to happen to a plane breaking up at 40000 feet.

That's a bit harsh. You can't label it neo con just because the characters learn to live in an island.

Actually my dad works as a planning engineer, and before that he was a technician in the RAF, he said that if strategic nuts and bolts were loose, plus the airframe being stressed (as it gets at 40000ft) the cabin depressuriseses (sp??) and it is eniterly plausable that the back if the aircraft would fall off.
You've got to remember aircraft are fragile little things and if one major thing goes wrong, you are dead and going to a watery grave.
As for "happening to crash into a deserted island" if you just look in a normal atlas at the area of Fiji you will see it is covered in THOUSANDS of tiny islands so it is again plausable that they would crash on a deserted island.
What i do find crap though (a TINY thing, coming from a guy who KNOWS aircraft) the first episode, first scene where the engine explodes, there is no way that engine would've kept running with no feul or starter motor (which needs electricity from the batteries in the nosecone) therefore would not have exploded, a tiny thing, but the only thing i can see to be unplausable

Catiline, the survivors do reliaze it. Indeed, one or two begin to believe that the island itself has powers (which would explain their being alive).

As SteppeMerc said, the fact they're still alive is a part of the mystery. They don't get out of the plane and say "well, we're lucky", they are like "WTF ? How is it possible that we are still alive ?"
