    Default Best 10 horror movies...

I just watched to "The Eye" and it was Ok, but i expected a little more. Anyway i wanted to know what are, in your opinion, the best horror movies that you've seen. I don't have so many to my list so i'll put the only ones i can consider (put why is the best if you feel to):
    1- The Ring
    2- The Grudge
3- The Dawn of the Dead (i'm talking about the old, i don't know if this movie is called the same therem it's from the 80's or early 90's)
4- The Night of the Dead
5- In the mouth of madness

Apparently Urban Legends is awesome, i aint seen it though

Dawn of the Dead (2004) is one HELL of a movie, but never should be classed as horror, it wasnt scary even the first time i watched it, but it was one of the best action/adventure movies i have seen in recent years

Alien is a haunted house movie in space.

I must say I'm a big fan of the evil dead films and Romero's Zombie films (although I've heard that the new one is rubbish so I haven't bothered to see it yet).

    Halloween is fun too.

And those silent blank and white German films ("Der Golem", "Nosferatu" etc.)

And I think the old "Dawn of the Dead" is from the 70s (possibly early 80s). Definitely not from the 90s though.

I think "Ichi the killer" is a serious contender for best horror movie: a real gorefest. Than no one can forget dawn of the dead, cannibal holocaust, evil dead, nightmare on elm street,...

Here's a pretty good one that you probably haven't heard of: Prince of Darkness, by John Carpenter, from the 80s. Check it out.

"Nosferatu", most definitely the best horror movie I've seen from the silent era.

I'm still looking to see this movie. You're a good man, Puzz3d.

The re-make of Dawn of the Dead is a movie I refuse to see; the trailers were lame enough. The original Dawn of the Dead has easily earned a place on my list of favourite horror films.

Rosemary's Baby was excellent, too, but I didn't find it that scary. Intense, yes, and intriguing, but not scary. I guess "Hail Satan!" was more frightening to hear at the time it was made..

The Omen was quite good too. Thinking of the Nanny in the dark is a sure way to creep yourself out. I also loved the scene where Gregory Peck digs up his real son's grave and discovers that the Satanists murdered his child.

I have yet to see the original black and white Nosferatu, but I saw Nosferatu: Phantom der Nacht not long ago, and I thought it was great. I usually hate re-made films, but this wasn't a re-make so much as...a re-interpretation, in a sense. Many scenes are silent and long, but still manage to hold your attention; my girlfriend loved it so much, she's having a shot from the film tattooed on her back.

Although I've yet to watch it in its entirety, I recently bought the 25th anniversary edition of Zombie, AKA Zombi 2. A zombie movie classic. I can't wait to watch that eye-impalement scene again.

Although it's not really horror in any sense, I recommend She Demons if anyone is interested in a 50's cheesefest. Not scary or purposefully funny, but hilarious nonetheless, if only because it's a sign of the time.

    1/ The Exorcist

    2/ The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

3/ The Omen (My personal fav)

    4/ Cannibal Holocaust

    5/ The Changelling

    6/ Black Christmas

7/ The woman in Black: This Drama on itv around 1990( British patrons would probably only have scene this) scared the crap out of me and was very hard to get for my film collection.

    8/ Salem's Lot

9/ Fallen (very underated film) or the Last Broadcast(much better than Blair witch)

10/ The Night of the Hunter

The Innocents was also a good horror film, i also enjoyed the Devils Backbone a Spanish film which is top draw. For fun horror the Evil Dead Trilogy, Bubba Hotep ( just a class film), Braindead, Bad Taste. Fright Night and Dog soldiers all need to be seen. A british film called the Descent is totally wicked and must be seen as well.

Rosemary's baby is a good film, Near Dark which is one of best vampire films, House of a Thousand corpses and its sequel Devils Rejects were films i really enjoyed and society is a weird horror film more insane than scary.

Nosferatu is very good but Dr cal was bad and i didn't enjoy that at all.

I'm not a fan of remakes though, Texas Chainsaw was ok and i enjoyed the new version of The Amityville Horror was pretty good, better than the original which was just rubbish.

The stories of M R James on the BBC during the seventies were quite scary especially a "warning to the curious"

Blair witch was ok, it definetly had its moments. Don't look now is pretty disturbing but a bit boring and lacks pace with your interest only picking up near the end. Also American Werewolf in London is a great comedy horror film

BKB, I noticed you put Fallen in your list, but does the movie qualify as a horror - especially compared to the Exorcist , I've seen the movie Fallen and really liked it, but it wasn't a raw blood filled movie like you see in lot's of horror movies- more a mysterious thriller...

I couldn't help but put it down in the list as it hits you more than some horror films do. Maybe not horror in the coventional sense but quite scary none the less
