Thread: "Barbarian" standard bearers and Carnyx playing units in EB?!

  1. #1

Default "Barbarian" standard bearers and Carnyx playing units in EB?!

Do the Aeduii,Sweboz, Casse etc get unique standard bearers units or are they sharing the same model and only use different skin's because of model limitations?!
I personally hope that the standard's bearers unit's are variated.

Are you planning or already have a Carnyx unit in the Aedui and Casse factions ?!
Carnyx units have to be in Celtic army that is my opinion and also non Celtic "barbarians" did use the Carnyx like the Dacians and some Germanic tribes.
I would be very cool if EB includes them.

PS: I also like variation in Non-Barbarian factions by the way.

I know the Aedui at least have a standard bearer IIRC.

Funny you've mentioned that, guess what I'm currently working on?

Despite CA's model limit, EB has endeavoured to still give the player a huge assortment of varied units by sharing models amongst factions. This is achieved by utilising cas alphas, so that each unit looks completely different.

A carnyx unit has not been modelled to date but if model space will allow, I think that will change :)

And while variety and historical accuracy is extremely important, needless to say a real unit's model trumps that of a standard bearrer.

This seems to be the sound of a real reconstructed carnyx. Maybe we should add something like this to warcry, shouldn't we? Or maybe like a rally sound.

That's a pretty lousy sound. I've heard another one which sounded very eire and un-nerving. LIke a dieing loon call or something along those lines.

Add ten thousand people screaming and the sure chance of being slashed in two with some sharp blade or get your head crushed and separated from your body, and you're ready to dirt your pants...

I think I saw in one screenshot back a while ago, a Belgic standard bearer.

    PSYCHO V,
Are cas alphas parts of a model that can be made invisible or visible by applying another skin to the model?!
How far can you go with cas alphas without reducing the performance greatly?!

Well you can remove a roman unit from EB to make space for a Carnyx unit

    Dux Corvanus,
Reminds me of a quote from Polybius

"The Romans... were terrified by the fine order of the Celtic host, and the dreadful din, for there were innumerable horn -blowers and trumpeters, and... the whole army were shouting their war-cries... Very terrifying too were the appearance and the gestures of the naked warriors in front, all in the prime of life and finely built men, and all in the leading companies richly adorned with gold torcs and armlets." ...Polybius, 2nd century BC .
I would like to experience this if I fight the Gauls or other Celts in EB....

Really scary! I cannot imagine a Celtic army with fill of fury, terrible warcries and Carnyx sounds!

Dago, your warcry idea is really perfect. Warcry shoutings and Carnyx...

By the way, what is the model limit in RTW?
For detailed dacian history and music I sugest the next link http://www.geocities.com/cogaionon/article8.htm.
Good luck, EB with the modding.
For the dacian dracones, the following link would help.

That one sound is very good! I noticed that EB has not made any naked warriors. Does this have anything to do with turning the game into an 'R' rated mod?

I'm talking about about the full nine here, Mr Johnson swinging in the breeze and such.

I just read a book on Barbarian Warriors and apparenlty the front line troops, the most respected ones, fought butt naked. Oh those germans!

what could be more satisfying then hacking a roman army to bits with a horde of naked men? BRING ON THE NUDE BARBARIANS!
