Now, if you want to beef up the stats, all you have to do is change the first two numbers to the right of the entry stat_pri. The first number is the attack strenght, the second number is the attack bonus received when charging.

Now, if you just want to make the unit better on defense, change the three numbers right of the entry stat_pri_armour. First number: armour, second: defense skills, third number: shield defense.

Regarding the stats, sfwartir said it. You might want to change the morale to something better ditto the morale status (from low to normal, for example) as well.
Phalanx, that´s simple - on the surface. Just add "phalanx" to the unit formations line, there you are. However, if you do that, the easterners won´t use the spears they had any more, they´ll use the phalanx long spears. Those you can influence by adding short_pike or long_pike to the stat_pri_attr line, with long pikes you´ll get the extra long spears (leike the seleucid levy pikemen), with short pikes you´ll get simple short spears combined with the phalanx ability (the German Warband has those), using none gets you the normal, medium-lenght phalanx spears.
