"Tora! Tora! Tora!" is pretty accurate. It is an older version of "Pearl Harbour", but much more accurate and unlike PH it does not end with the Doolittle raid. The title is derived from the attack-cry of the Japanese pilots.

From someone who knows the regiments, commanders, officers and actions of the Battle of Waterloo, the film was pretty accurate.

I had a thing about the battle of Waterloo in my youth and remember finding myself a little irritated by the potrayal of the battle in the Rod Steiger film. I can't remember the details clearly but I think I just found it's portrayal of the battle too "light". I have a vague memory that it did not show the role of the British cavalry in shattering D'Erlon's assault and weakening the grand battery. Instead it potrayed it as a "Charge of the light brigade" style futile attack, focussing on the Scots Greys getting blown and cut down by French cavalry. I've got the tape, so I should watch it again - you might be right and I was just too fussy. I liked the use of some of Napoleon and Wellington's most pithy sayings about the battle - that was well done, with very good casting of these two leads.

I'd vote for a Bridge Too Far - despite the budget, the cast and the drama, I don't believe it embellished anything and it managed to capture an impressive amount of detail.

The two Zulu films - Zulu and Zulu Dawn - should get an honorable mention.

Waterloo was brilliant and as far as films go, pretty accurate.

Also, did anyone notice that in Alexander, they didn't make the most common mistake of all classical era films? No styrups! Hurray! Finally Holywood learns that horses aren't born with the bloody things.
