Thread: Old Kings?

    Default Old Kings?

I'm new to the game and have only played one full campaign with Spain on normal with MTW v1.1. For my 2nd campaign I'm trying the Danes and my first King seems to be getting very old. I tried to find a search function to look for a topic of old Kings, but either don't have the privilege or can't find it for some reason.

How old do Kings get in the game?

I will let you know how long he lives when I return later today.

    Regards,
    Pillowfighter

Mine useally get into their 70's but i just had one last into his 80's. Not to say they wont die in their 50's. i usually start paying attention to heirs when my king hits 60.

Welcome Pillowfighter!!! Old kings are troublesome, as when they finally do die, the heirs are fairly well along, and many times, if you're doing really well, you couldn't get your heir married off (the AI stops marriages after you cross a certain threshold towards victory, I think it's 30% of the available territory, but i'm not postive). That means if your king dies really late, your youngest prince could be in his late 50's (and the main heir might be in his mid 60s). They won't marry a local aristocrat for 2 or 3 years, so the odds of you getting a wife, getting a son, and having him mature before your youngest prince dies are pretty slim. This is the only way I've ever truly lost the game.

77 is really old, but not out of the realm of imagination. Your king dying of natural causes usually starts around 65, and the odds of it happening each term do increase each year, but they never reach 100%. Just 'lucky', I suppose. You might want to think about doing the old codger in yourself before your princes get too old to start a 3rd generation. If they've been married off, this isn't so much a concern, as the king's grandsons won't show up in the heir list until the king dies. Frequently, your married princes have 2 or 3 sons growing up in anonymity you get pleasantly surprised by upon the prince ascending the throne.

Hell, I lost 5 Kings in a row playing as the danes on Hard couple of days ago. I think it might have been some kind of glitch as for some reason the Compass event never happened on that game. Hasen't had that problem before or in the other campaign i started last night.

Thanks for the welcomes and info...I sorta wish I would have checked in here before playing a few years. I guess I could always go back and play from the old save, but think it will be more fun to play it out even if I have made some mistakes.

So anyways King Olaf lived to the age of 79 and was succeeded by his heir that was 60. Then in the next 10 yrs he and his successor also die and Sweyn III succeeds the throne at the age of 20. I think I was a bit lucky to not run out of heirs with Olaf getting so old. In the early game I did marry my princes off to some other nations princesses, but mostly to just get the alliances. I guess they were producing potential heirs that I could not see.

I have a question about Sweyn having the Pride vice, how does one get this vice? Only thing I have done in the 3 yrs of his rule is remove a low acumen gov and replace with a better one. Is this what did it?

    Thx,
    Pillowfighter

Its a random (but very annoying!) one, i think, you cant stop it. I have noticed if you have high influence, this seems to help stop it occuring in your princes though

Are the ages that the historical kings die just random, or do they die in the year that they would have historically?

I remember once always getting old kings, up to 70 years old, dying at random ages above the age of 50. Then suddenly and for no reason they all started to die at 56, they'd reach 56 and then die next turn. Every single one of them.

Why is this? Does it have something to do with the viking invasion add on?

VI unpatched got the 56 year bug. All kings dies at the same age (57), thus are never older than 56.

There's usually one faction that marries thier princesses with your princes thurough out the game (or until you're at war with them, but sometime they'll even continue that for a while). It's most often the crippled Sicilians (AKA when they are trapped on Malta), but it can be all factions (although some factions is extremely rare). Danes are common too. It's usually a small faction. But you always need to ask for marriage.
We are all aware that the senses can be deceived, the eyes fooled. But how can we be sure our senses are not being deceived at any particular time, or even all the time? Might I just be a brain in a tank somewhere, tricked all my life into believing in the events of this world by some insane computer? And does my life gain or lose meaning based on my reaction to such solipsism?

Holy crap!! I don't think I've ever had a faction leader make it much past 80, and most don't even make it to 70.
