    Default Crazy Pets

Have you guys got any crazy pets?

I do (did) and would like to share some tales of them:

The first is gerbils: we started out with two, and then we had 26 (an upside down family tree, if you will). They all lived happily until the great gerbil wars began, and they started killing each other off until there was only one or two left per cage (aquariums, of which we have several). They all live bitter lives until dying of old age.

The last one is not so depressing: We have some dogs, and we have built a dog run outside for them to play in. We had to electricfy (sp?!?) it to prevent the dogs from digging there way out. This made one of our three dogs very scared when he got electricuted the first time (he got shocked 4 times in couple minutes, since he'd run around and try and hide with his back against the fence, thus sitting down on the wire). So now, this dog has dug himself a nice little hole to hide in in there. Actually, it isn't little; it's big enough for him to go down into and completely disappear out of sight, and then turn around in! He's quite a good digger, and I saw him actually moving some dirt around with his nose!

Anyone else have tales of odd pets?

We had a cat who would climb up the wood beam supporting the balcony and scratch at the door to be let in, she would even jump off to get down! This balcony is pretty high up, at least 10 feet!

We also have a dog who has caught and killed numerous little critters, the most notable one being a wild turkey, which she ate all of (except a few feathers). She and our other dog may have also somehow managed to kill a deer today. Appartently while outside they were barking up a storm and my mom had to take a long time to get them in. When she did one of the dogs had a very fresh deer leg in his mouth, it is not deer season and we have not heard gunshots today.

Thats pretty common for cats. I had one that would go up on the roof on hang down off the gutter and bang on the window of what ever upstairs room had a light on.

My cat was in a car accident, and had it's tail run over. The vertabrae at the end of it were crushed, meaning the tip was immobile. The vet said to leave it, and see if it got better, but it didn't, and my mum and I discussed taking back to the vet to get the tip amputated. The following morning I woke up to find that my cat had taken matters into her own hands, and chewed off the tip of her tail by herself.

I've still got the bit of tail, and plan to make a key-ring out of it.

We've got two incredibly stupid dogs (hers, not mine!), one perpetually pregnant cat, two birds I hear but never see, and from two to four small lizards depending on the day. And crickets. We always hear crickets in our house because they're in the lizard tank. Very cool falling asleep on the sofa, -30 outside, and you hear crickets like it's summer. It's neat, and oddly comforting.

And why were you sleeping on the couch in the first place

True, but it is still pretty cool. The posts are really scratched up by now, but the two cats we have now won't try to climb the, they are lazy because we have a dog door.

i had a cool male calico cat that i named Chigger. the name was derived from a morning ritual we had. chigger would sleep on my bed...somewhere, anywhere. in the morning, he would climb up on my chest and begin 'stretching'. i mean, it was time to get the human up so he could be fed and let out. now anyone with a cat knows that when a cat 'stretches' it does so with its claws OUT. i would appropriately, immediately bolt upright in the bed, grab chigger and throw (not toss, but THROW) him across the room.

apparently, chigger found this to be great adventure and quite satisfying. after all, he'd created quite an effect, gotten me up, gotten fed, and got let out. the routine never varied. every morning....EVERY morning i would awaken to cat claws digging into my chest! and just to rub it in, if i had a woman friend over that night, he would NEVER claw her. it was always me....AND, the woman would always be outraged at ME (!) for tossing that poor kitty across the room! it just wasnt fair :)

but i really did like that cat :)

I've got two pretty damn weird dogs. One is an American bulldog called Lucy (from the Beatle's song), who is quite mean to our slightly older beagly mutt called Rosie. Lucy has made Rosie's ears her chew toys. She likes to bark at inanimate objects, including bags, brooms, shoes, and my hair.

I've also got two cats... my cat is probably the weirder of the two. She is a bit over weight, and spends all of her time in one room, because she can't get to any others because she cannot jump the fences we have to prevent the dogs from chewing up everything in the house. Except one time, when we put flea medication on her, she ran away, and jumped the fence. I chased after her, to find she was drooling all over. Quite weird...

I have this striped 3 year old Great-Dane , named Dane

Now the thing is that sometimes he just totaly freeks out when we take him out for the daily walk, he just thinks himself smart by running really fast in circels - and he also likes running straight past you , or if you decide to move to the side, run into you. Which you really don't want - since he's an 80+ Kg dog...
Also he's afraid of almost anything that ; drives ( bike , car ) and makes funny noises ( vacuum cleaner etc.. ) and he really likes barking at the trash -can for some odd reason.
Sometimes he does act smart though, he can open doors with his nose, and even close them too. He's also very obedient , most of the time that is -and by that I don't mean he actually listens to what I say , only to the guy that feeds him every day , a.k.a my dad

Still, he may be stupid most of the time , he's still the sweetest dog I know.

I'm an athiest. I get offended everytime I see a cold, empty room. - MRD

I just remembered another thing about my stupid dog. If you get his water bowl and put it up to his face and say 'do you want a drink, Lewis?', he turns around and ignores you as if you don't exist. So funny...i love that little sod.
