This should answer your questions.
EB DEVOTEE SINCE 2004
RTW only represents a small portion of my gaming. lets see... I play Hearts of Iron 2, Victoria, HL2, BF2, GTA:SA...and many many more. I actually think MTW still represents the largest bracket of my gaming time for the last 2 years![]()
1. Now I am playing Vampires the Masquerade: Bloodlines;
2. This topic is more suited to the Arena forum.

Anyway, at the moment aside from playing Rome most of the time I play a lot of FPS's. My favourite among these being Far Cry, Battlefield 2 (which I am unable to play online), Doom 3 etc.
I also recently completed Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory.
All brilliant games![]()
WWII On Line , which is easily the hardest digital PVP there is {they release more patches than the ACME patch company} , and is ubercool . A hell of a lot of TW fans in WWIIOL .
Neverwinter nights even though I'm not a geek .![]()
Il2 {and spawn thereof : Pacific Fighters} which is a great WWII air combat sim .
7 out of 10 people like me ,
I'm not going to change for the other three .

Just kidding, I recognize that quality takes time. How are the efforts at breaking into the AI code going?![]()
CA lurkers please note, I am not on the EB team. Those fine individuals would never under any circumstances try something like that. Again, just kidding.
No really, I just made it up. I have heard nothing of the kind.
Why won't you believe me?!!!

FPS's for a quick and easy gaming-session that doesn't require much thinking and is thus quite relaxing on the mind. Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Counterstrike: Condition Zero are the FPS's I frequently play. Battlefield 2 runs to heavy on my machine causing long loading times, CTD's and hard to hit targets due to poor framerate. Perhaps when I buy myself a new PC I might be able to enjoy it. Or if the new ATI drivers make it playable enough to be enjoyable. Waiting 2-5min for joining a game is just annoying if you want to get in to the action fast.
Occasionally Homeworld 2, Neverwinter Nights: HotU, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory and some other need-to-finish games.
IL-2 Sturmovik and Silent Hunter III, lately. There's a story involved.
I went away for months on a job assignment and darn near played nothing for all those months.
Before I got back, my computer suffered a catastrophic hard drive failure.
Got the old PC and gave it to one of my kids. Bought a new computer -- and found that I could play IL-2 and related games very smoothly. It's a lot more fun to shoot down airplanes when they don't skip around right when you're about to pull the trigger.
Started to reinstall my other games, and replayed a bunch of my old favorites on the new machine. I'd forgotten how much fun "Jedi Outcast" was. It's especially fun when you have a new gaming mouse where you can vary the speed: Very fast for lightsaber battles, medium for most things, super slow fine tuning for sniper shots, etc. Add a couple of more keys on the mouse for more functions at your fingertips. It was great. I'd highly recommend such a mouse. Mine was the latest one by Logitech, the MX 510, I think.
Well, then I played "Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic" again, several times in a row. It takes 40 hours to complete that game with all it's side quests, even if you know where you're going. I even played a little M:TW. Somehow, it just seems wrong not to have a completed campaign of Medieval on my hard drive.
Then I tried "Silent Hunter III," the U-Boat sim. Now that's a demanding game. It requires great patience. Most of your time is spent cruising around, trying to find a target. Once you finally find something, hitting it is still a challenge. All your effort can go for nothing if you don't line things up right.
A lot of you younger players would be really well served to get some older games. I found that Windows XP is being updated all the time. An old flight sim I have, "Mig Alley," hadn't worked in years. It works now.
For less money than you'd spend going to a movie and buying popcorn, you can get some truly great games, either used or in the bargain bins.
Try the Real U-Boat mod for SH3. I really like playing the campaign using this mod, and if you also get the mod switcher at that site, you can easily enable or disable the mod. Here is a post discussing the latest version, v1.43 , of the mod.Originally Posted by Doug-Thompson

_________Designed to match Original STW gameplay.
Beta 8 + Beta 8.1 patch + New Maps + Sound add-on + Castles 2
Thanks, interesting to hear, I've held off buying XP for the very reason that I have a bunch of old games I still like to play.Originally Posted by Doug-Thompson
Yeah, most of my games come from the bargain bin. You'd be nuts to pay for a full price game, unless it's something really special that you must have right NOW.Originally Posted by Doug-Thompson

I have two games in the Panzer General series, Panzer General 3D and the sequel to that, Scorched Earth.Originally Posted by Mount Suribachi

I was having great fun in the Guderian scenario with the difficulty cranked up to 167, but then last night I was fiddling with the multiplayer options out of curiosity and somehow it corrupted my SP campaign. Now it quits with a "DDHelp has performed an illegal operation" message![]()
Scorched Earth BTW is quite a bit harder than PZ3D. The Russian units are quite overrated compared to the German which is a bit disappointing. And the fighting seems to be weighted strongly in favour of the AI player. A typical example - I had a captured T34 entrenched which was attacked by another, unentrenched T34. I should have come off best but instead I took only TWO points off the enemy T34 with two shots while he took at least SIX off mine. Ridiculous. PZ3D was better balanced.
I don't know if you've played either of these two games, but as I understand it the main difference between them and the earlier games is that in the later ones, the commanders are separate from the equipment, which has all sorts of advantages.
If you haven't played these titles and you try one, it's worth knowing that winning a major victory gives you an extra unit slot for your next battle.
