I've never quite understood "All your base are belong to us"...

I tried one, but not much changed...
It was not theirs to reason why,
It was not theirs to make reply,
It was theirs but to do or die.

Apparently translating things from English into Korean is like cleaning it. It goes back to the original sentence.

    At first I wrote:
I am the almighty Zalmoxis, I wear a coat.
After translating it to Japanese, then back, it said:
I omnipotence am the coat which has been learned Zalmoxis and my.

    This is great fun.

"All your base are belong to us" is a perfectly formed sentence, if one is using japanese grammar, which, incidentally differs somewhat from english.

If memory serves, said quote originates from some multiplayer FPS game in which the objective was to capture the enemys bases. Once this objective was completed, the japanese players politely informed their adversaries that all their bases now belonged to them. In english the sentence would have read:

"all your bases belong to us."

The japanese, however, often have a hard time learning foreign languages, especially english, when it comes to word order. In english, a sentences meaning can vary depending on the order the words are in. From a japanese viewpoint, this is utter nonsense. Japanese sentences have their words in a precise order and no excuses. So, in constructing a sentence in perfectly logical japanese fashion, the end result became internet history.

All your base are belong to us.

Wiki on "all your your base are belong to us"

And the term originally comes from a poorly translated videogame.
We are all aware that the senses can be deceived, the eyes fooled. But how can we be sure our senses are not being deceived at any particular time, or even all the time? Might I just be a brain in a tank somewhere, tricked all my life into believing in the events of this world by some insane computer? And does my life gain or lose meaning based on my reaction to such solipsism?

I know the name of said video game off the top of my head. Zero Wing. One of the most poorly translated games EVAR. And yes, everyone follow the link to engrish.com. It's a damn fine website.

EDIT: I'm sorry, but i just found what is probably the best engrish ever on that site. I found it a year ago or so, and though it lost forever. Apparently not! http://www.engrish.com/detail.php?im...ate=2002-10-10 Read the part about the 'laundering'. Utterly great.
