Thread: how far does the technology tree go?
the_handsome_viking 15:15 25/08/05
ill probably get laughed at for this question but, here goes.

last night i had a dream that this total conversion had been released (yes i am that sad) and the technology trees (especially for the northern european factions) went right on into the middle ages, to the point where you could have teutonic knights and fighting the crusades and what not.

what are the chances of something like that happening in this mod?

a bit out of the time frame isn't it?

you could always check out Chivalry total war. That's a medievel total conversion mod.
there's a MP beta for the early era out.

thats exactly what i mean though , to go from classical antiquity to the middle ages.

but i guess its not possible at the moment. oh well it will be like that with games in the future.

yes maybe a new Total war game, but I guess they'll do a napoleon age, rennaisance or bronze age game next...

actually there is amod in developement that proposes to include the entire world as a map and go from ancient times to around the 19th century. Age of Mankind: total war. You can find it in the forge.

There are many games that do this, just not ones that have TW's strat/battle split. Empire Earth, Rise of Nations, Civilization, etc.

Talk about stretching the limits...I wish them luck if they intend to do that with only 255 models to go around.

What they'll probably end up doing (if the mod actually gets anywhere) is sharply limiting faction diversity. So everyone gets units like, say, "Swordsman", and then "Medieval Heavy Cavalry", "Musketeer", etc.

Could be possible but it would be very ahistorical and lots of generic units and would probably end up being quite boring, as faction identity is one of the great htings about RTW.

They should stop this foolish mission; what's a true magician?! Give an exhibition how! They've put up a front, they've put up a fight- and just to show we feel no spite, they can be our acolytes: but first it's time to bow! Or it's there own grave they'll dig boys, they're playing with the big boys now!

It would be like the War of the Worlds situation portrayed in the book.

well say certain technological developments appear in the game like events, for example.

" English alchemist and monk Roger Bacon has now developed gun powder "

opening up a new sections of various peoples technology trees.

its just a suggestion, obviously this isnt going to happen within say... the next few months.
