I say American Football NC baby The athletes are strong fast tough rabid fans and my state has made it into an instution getting out at 2:30 to play...Excllent Baseball!
Nothing like the tension mounting watching pitch counts, balls and strikes, substitutions, lefty vs lefty match ups, steals, double steals, bases loaded with two out 3-2 counts, shut outs, leaping catches, drunken fans, bitter rivalries, and statistics, statistics, statistics etc.

I see American Football as Rugby for whimps with all that padding they wear, The other football or soccer beats American football by miles IMO.
Rugby is best. Then what you Americans would called soccer. Then cricket.

I would have voted Cricket, but i hate the fact you americans have stolen our word football, which is a word for a sport involving kicking a ball with your feet and plastered it onto your wussy sport, which is a rip off of rugby, but with all those pads, because your wimps. So i voted for good old British Football, which is the only good football.

Rugby is good stuff. Soccer is good stuff (love that one announcer 
). Football is good stuff for the 50 minutes they're actually playing out of the 180. Love to watch hurling on the rare occasions its on TV.
For me, however, THE sport is Baseball.

"Real" football, a.k.a. soccer, is the best of the bunch, but if you want the greatest sport on earth, it's definitely ice hockey.
I'll always prefer the tactics of football over the duels of baseball. Cricket... I just don't understand. And rugby is like football... just without the whole organization thing weighing it down.

Its a shame Rugby wasnt on the list, I would certainly have voted for it. But out of those, I would say Soccer. American football is way over-hyped! Its like Rugby with all the brilliance sucked out of it, replacing it with stop/start hinderences that remove all fun and tension.
I suppose it just depends what sports youve always been watching though. One thing to note though is that the rest of the world seems to hold football (as in soccer) in the highest importance, while the US doesnt. The World Cup is THE sporting occasion, probably bigger than the Olympics for a lot of people. But not in the US.

I dout you apprecciate the intricacies of American football or if you even realise whats really going on. Every play is a battle in a war. It has ground attack and air attack and the same on defense. For watching I prefer Football and American Football - I like to play Baseball (at least I used to) but for watching I find it to be a tad boring (unless you have something else to do while watching it, like a barbecue ).
I don't like to watch Cricket but obviously that's mainly because I have no clue about it.
To really appreciate a sport (and to actually be able to judge whether you like it or not) you usually have to be familiar with the rules and its nuances

Yes entirely, as I said, people will obviously be more fond of sports that they have had more exposure to.
I still fail to see your point though, Rugby has all the things you mentioned (well except for air attack, im not totally sure I follow what you meant with that) and more, and it doesnt have the totally infuriating stop/start thing. Its dynamic, fast, relentless and intelligent.

But Rugby is also like an hour and a half long battle. Each man working together. The vanguard -- the scrum -- is battling for the ball, and is the first defence. Rugby is also very violent. I did First Aid with St Andrews Ambulance Service for the High School of Dundee (not my school, but the city's only public school) rugby club. I treated things like a mere concussion, to a broken hand, and a couple of times a broken arm. The commandant told me of once quite recently when someone had an open leg fracture -- the bone was sticking out of the skin.

Actually I did have this experience and I used to cheer for our Highschool team (all the way to the Washington State finals in the Kingdome - which they unfortunately lost You understand the rules, but do you understand the game? You have to get together with some friends and play a game of American football to truly understand it. A play lasts only 30 seconds or so--usually less--but that's an entire battle right there.

So I think my connection goes a bit beyond "understanding the rules" - and I'd like to repeat that I tremendously enjoy watching American Football, but in the end it's the traditional Football games I really can get excited about...
