I know the game very well. Been watching it for more than 3 years now - occasionally play it (or a lighter version of it) with my friends and I've got Madden NFL on the pc too.

But still, football beats american rugby

Y'know this is just turning into another "We're better than you!" threadThe Americans Say the USA kicks everyone but all the other countries are saying the same thing about THEIR country, this isn't about sport, this is about politics.

Yet another innocent thread hacked into by politics

Again check the olympic stats. We rule all of sports while you are only good at the ones you invented.

Have you been in a stadium of soccer here and seing everybody sing and scream an getting up on the fences until throwing it down. And then rob (yes rob) the players, it's quite a savage show, at least more savage that any NFL game
Yes the crowd is but not the players. Bye the way I played on a championship soccer team in HS. We came in second in the state. I know all about soccer. Its a great game and takes much more stamina than football as you never get a break espically playing a forward like it did. But football is far more physical a game.

Im sure a Football game(proper football) would beat an NFL game by miles, the sound would be far better
What sound? Soccer is silent compared to football.

also Gawain i still dont know how you can describe a NFL game like a war
Then again I suggest you have no grasp of football. The coaches maje up a war plan. They study the enemies forces and how they use them and come up with both a defense and an offense to take advantage of this. Every play is drawn out and practiced just like we practiced for d day. There is the ground attack of the half backs and fullbacks and sometimes the quarterback. Theres the aerial attack of the OB and the recivers. Then theres the real war in the trenches and thats exactly what its called. In every way football can be compared to war.

Cricket is good for the lazy ones (like me) who field miles out on the side the ball never gets hit to. It's ideal for games lessons. Until you are actually expected to wake up and catch it...

The way I look at is alot of people always bring up their favorite computer game or what ever is their favorite thing to do.(for example when talking about iraq on here, I have seen people bring total war into it some how!)

With me that is target shooting....if I had to choose between it and total war, total war is gone

Target shooting is the most addicting thing you will ever try (if you do try it, and I suggest you do!)

    American Football all the way.
    Far more phyiscal than soccer.
I played soccer, and its fun I admit. However, to me it seemed repeditive, and not as thrilling as football.
    Football, man, talk about big.
(And the New England Patriots have not won twenty, only five)

The greatest thing about AFootball is that almost every state has a team, and made couple more. Its electrifying here in Tallahassee (FSU!) every game we play. Especailly so when we play Florida and Miami.

Football is great, cause it is all about your strategy.

You got a buncha fast guys, go for a running play.
Good QB, with an eye for a reciever, good senses for pocket, you got a throwing play.
If you got both, then your really good. There is an element of randomness to it, along with strategy.
For example, FSU sometimes plays like this.

    Running play, running play, airborne!

Its the perfect center between baseball (real long, with no defined end) and basketball (very fast paced)

Another thing is at the endzone. Especailly third down, on the fifth. You gonna throw? Are you going to run it through the center.

But this is all a waste of cyberspace, because no one will care.
If alot of European (namely British) people log on, then they will no doubt vote EFootball. If alot of Americans log on, then it would be AFootball.

Why do you NFL lovers seem to think that American Football is the only sport with strategy and extremely complicated set pieces? Believe me, Rugby has a hell of a lot of this too. Look at a line-out, a scrum, a back line manouver... pretty much every part of the game relies on calls and plans from either the scrum half, the hooker, the no 8, or whoever.

The REAL Football rules over all! The Premiere League is the best thing in the world of sports IMO. Even though those poor English can't beat the Italians in their own games

NFL got little interest from outside US, probably only in America (cont.) and Japan, while Football - i.e. REAL football, not American version of rugby - has fans all over the world. A glaring proof to its superiority.

Its basically two teams of 15 crazy Celts armed with large weapon-like devices known as Hurleys and a hard hockey-like ball known as a sliothar, running around a large field beating the living hell out of each other. Your not meant to hit the other guy with your Hurl, only tackle him, but its pretty common, and these guys often dont even wear helmets, hard as nails. There are two goals at either end. A ball over the cross-bar gets one point, under the cross btsar is a goal and that counts as three poin. A player can not carry the ball more than 4 paces, having then to balance it on the stick or pass it. You should give it a watch, its really great. As is Gaelic football!

They are all very different sports. I'm a huge baseball fan, Atlanta Braves to be specific...

But all the sports listed are great. As long as no one is juiced up and ruining the integrety of their respective sport. I do prefer baseball out of all listed though. Hitting a round ball with a round bat "squarely" while its traveling from 91 to 100 MPH is the hardest thing for a player to do out of all sports in my opinion...

Hey, I'd already put hurling in for an honorable mention above. It really is fun to watch too. You've got a bit of the constant soccer movement thing going on coupled with ripping line drives. All that and they allow a bunch of Irish to "play" while armed with a perfectly lethal weapon. It's no wonder that Setanta's first great victories were on a hurling field!

I still vote baseball, but hurling is no slouch of a game.

I agree with you, english fútbol is the best . But the Premier League, isn't, the ambient here is lived like "life & death" thing, it's almost a thrill all the time while you stand on the stadium (you've to watch your pockets too ), there, if it was not, for the hooligans, it would be like a reunion to have some tea. In any case the fact is that between Brazil and Argentina we generate the best players of fútbol ever, and you breed on that. (*cough* Maradona *cough* goal on '66 *cough* english deception )

As far as I can see the pending question is not limited to whats(what’s) better to watch and could as well be interpreted as what’s better to play.

As I have had the fortunate experience of having played all the sports mentioned:
American football: a couple of teams here in Norway and I used to train with the center on Bergen Bulldogs whilst in college.
Soccer the sport where you actually use your feet to some extent: Played actively until High school.
Baseball: I have a bat, glove and ball. Introduced to the game by some Mormon friends and actually tried to organise a local team in Bergen.
Cricket: I used to live in Australia and played some with Australian kids.

Conclusion: Soccer is the most fun sport to play… and hence is the better.

Baseball is the best sport the, imo, for the reasons so eloquently put by Proletariat. The statistics most of all really appeal, you can really get into the game.

They've dropped a few recently, but they've also averaged about 8 runs a game over the last month. Manny and Ortiz are on fire. Schilling returns to the rotation thursday, so there's hope for the pitching staff.

I cannot believe I'm with JAG against GoO for once.

I remember when the Patriots won the Superbowl for the first time a few years ago. All you heard from the New England fans at the end of the game was the chant, "Yankees suck! Yankees suck!" Best baseball fans ever.

I know the run production has been there for the most part, but there are many holes opening up and it is worrying. The bullpen is weak, very weak. Every game you cringe when the ball is handed over to anyone but Timlin, it isn't good.

Yes Schilling back in the rotation Thursday but he isn't the real Schilling yet, it could still go pear shaped. :/

I watch all the Sox games - well a vast majority - via mlb tv, and this road trip has been desperate. Against the Angels our offence has even been very poor, including Manny and Big Papi. Maybe I am just worried about the Yankees creeping ever closer and seemingly playing well.

Anyway, will get easier vs KC. :D
