I got the nickname Spino from a close friend back in college. He said he got it from a book he had to read in literature class ("Bread & Wine") which features a protagonist named Pietro Spina. I believe the character was initially quite the atheist and anti-religion type. I was a unapologetic atheist back then but I certainly wasn't anti-religion. Anyway my friend must have deliberately or accidentally dropped the 'a' in Spina and replaced it with an 'o'. Good thing too because on its own Spino sounds much more masculine than Spina. Spino is a very real name though and is found commonly in Italy and other latin based cultures (i.e. Espinosa). Here's the origin of the name: spino-, spin-, spini- (Latin: thorn, prickle; by extension, "backbone", the spinal cord)

I try to use the name Spino in virtually every single forum and game I play. Chances are if you play games online and see the nickname Spino it's probably me. If you see a Spino playing BF2 that's definitely me because Gamespy only allows one person to have the same nickname.

I don't know about any Harry Potter spells but I do know that Quietus was an uber-powerful sword for the warrior class in "Hexen: Beyond Heretic", the sequel to "Heretic." Heretic and Hexen were two outstanding first person shooters by Raven that appeared during the Doom revolution of the 90s.
