I dont think there is a rivalry between Europe and China. And after the collapse of Soviet Union.Western Europe doesnt need allies against Eastern Europe.I dont think China has any ambitions towards Europe. The rivalry is between China and USA.

Since NATO provides for a common defense, all members share the benefits of a common system. I fail to see how replacing that with a thousand individual alliances is going to be more efficient. It simply makes each one weaker. We had a system like that before WWI and WWII.

If i'm correct the NATO provides support for the European Command of USA, so pulling out will make the Command less powerful at least. If i lived there I would think twice in saing "pull out".

Plus America isn't going to want Europe to end up with combined armed forces larger and more powerful than hers. Hell, Europeans don't want that either.

For those who think NATO is doing nothing I suggest you say that to the Spanish people (this is national news here in Aus... it should be in the EU and USA):

KABUL, Afghanistan - A helicopter carrying NATO peacekeepers crashed in a western Afghan desert Tuesday and another flying with it made an emergency landing, killing 17 Spanish troops and injuring five others providing security ahead of landmark legislative elections.

Yes then we can start on the wall... Its served its purpose and America just dosent need to invest into it anymore
There, but for the grace of God, goes John Bradford

My aim, then, was to whip the rebels, to humble their pride, to follow them to their inmost recesses, and make them fear and dread us. Fear is the beginning of wisdom.

I am tired and sick of war. Its glory is all moonshine. It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, for vengeance, for desolation.

So are you going to pay for the trade deficit first?

Just review what happened to China and Japan as a result of isolationist policies.
