    Default sieging, artillery

    hi y'all.

is EB changing anything to the vanilla siege? the Ram will be renewed i guess, pretty logical.
but will sap+tower+ladder+ram be varied per faction? any new engines?

btw, i saw something nice on discorvery. they made a 4 story high siege tower, with scorpions on top. and (most important) they didnt use ladders within, just ramps. not 1 very long ramp; but they first planned 3 ladder. but cam out with 4 ramps. the angle was about 50 deg, or something. it was doable. what will EB do?

and what about artillery? i saw a nice catapult. it looked very complicated, but nice.
it was a giant crossbow (horizontal) the type that usually fires a huge Bolt. but when released this "bow" powered an (vannila)onager type of throwing arm.
the arm was pivoting a couple of inches below the "power" point.

    another attempt to explain:
the (vanilla) onager is powered by 1 sinew at teh bottom. wiht this machine at thAt point there's a Pivot.
the throwing arm is Pulled forward. pulled forward by that crossbow..

    anything in EB?

Artillery wasn't used on the scale you see in RTW, that only happened a lot later didn't it? I thought generally they were used to provide covering fire for siege constructions and the like, picking off enemies on the wall and enemies approaching the wall. So I'm also kind of curious how siege engines will be handled in EB, since the stuff in RTW is clearly designed to fit in with the pace of the game.

Well, a few months ago when they did those random previews, one of them included a picture of a siege engine, that was basically an oversized ballista. If I remember correctly, one of the developers said that this new siege engine will replace the ornager in game, since the latter wasn't developed untill much later. So yeah, I would say new stuff will be added :)

As far as I'm aware, though, the ram-ladder-tower-sap thing is hardcoded. We could make certain siege weapons unusable for certain cultures once they get to battle, but we couldn't stop them from building them that I know of.

yes GF is right, siege equipment wasn't used in such great numbers as in RTW.
but I guess they are adding several new catapults. There are two in the lost art... thread so I guess there'll be more. maybe a new preview idea?

Nah don't expect any in the open beta, currently it isn't possible to create new siege engines animation, verci is working on this, and as for the models you mentioned only one remained(oxybeles), the other was lostwhen my hdd burned. And as for making new model i don't think it will happen until it's possible to make new siege animations.
