Well, the possibilities for problems are always there with computers - but if you installed both cards and drivers, the operating system should utilize the appropriate driver depending on which card is active. One card will be the primary (depending on motherboard settings), and should be the default at bootup. You should theoretically be able to enable or disable either card in the Device Manager (maybe reboot if necessary), so that only one would be active at a time.
That's the concept, anyway - not something I've needed to mess with, so only testing will tell.

Well there is no physical reason to stop you, I just think there is a high chance of errors occuring. I wouldn't take the risk.

Default Re: My Support Conversation with Activision over Nvidia's newest drivers.

I was the one who posted the long Customer Support information with Activision and after their last reply, they sent me this.

Response (Sam Akiki) 08/24/2005 07:07 AM
    Hello,

Unfortunately we no longer have a relationship with the developer of this game. Creative Assembly was purchased by Sega a few months ago. It would be unlikely that there would be a patch released by us. This is most likely a problem with the Nvidia drivers. Nvidia would have to fix any problems they introduced into the game. If you have any further questions feel free to contact us.

First, why the hell didn't they just tell me this to begin with?

Second, when the hell did this happen?

and Third, why the hell didn't they just tell me this to begin with?

Thought you all would like to know, thats all. I reposted this under the Activision post.

That happened earlier this year - April kind of time, from memory.

My advice - don't buy RTW out of protest (I'm doing the same, because of the huge time it took them to make the second patch for it).

Right on - oh wait, I wasn't going to buy it anyways because I heard it sucked.

If anything, I might buy it USED off of ebay, so they get nothing. Or, I could have a friend download it free off of the internet.

Just kidding, I don't pirate software because that would be wrong.

Default Has anyone played MTW with an ATI 7000 card?

I was just wondering, its really low and I wanted to know on a AMD 3000+ chip that it would play well with such a crappy GFX card?

Well...I have an old 1.2 celeron pentium integrated chip set box that I have a ATI 7000 card in a PCI slot. I think I put it in 2+ yrs ago so I could give Rise of Nations a whirl. The performance on that game wasn't that great, but prolly also due to only 384 sdram. Since then we have purchased a couple other computers, a laptop and another desktop(which I normally play MTW on). I really only game a couple hrs a week with work, school, and other interests and am fairly new to MTW actually. I did however put MTW on the old puter so I could play it when the better half is using the other PC. For me it's ok and I don't really mind it that much, but from skimming some of your other threads I think you would not be really happy with it.

Here are some screenshots of the game using the ATI 7000. There can be some slow downs when alot of men and artillary on the field. Also I remember having some display\driver issues that I sorted out when I first put in the card. I don't remember exactly what they were being a couple yrs ago now....think I had to use a cleaner and new install of a ATI driver.

Neways...here are some shots of the game and let me know if anything else I can answer for you.

Default Hit a new low (Stupid Nvida)

I can't believe I am about to do this but for a limited time until I can afford a seperate PCI card, I am going to trade my nVidia 6200 for an 5200. JUST TO PLAY THIS GAME.

Thats like moving a Turd from the frontyard to the backyard - it still smells and looks like crap and solves nothing.

I think your right, I'm just bored. With everything going on and playing one mediocre game after another. I kinda wanted to play the game that requires some thought. Thanks

I think I should go to a MTW AA like meeting or something.

All in all, I think I need a new hobby. Well, not much I can do until my fiance recovers from her accident. A trait I have is that I hardly ever walk away from a problem and this would be the first one in a while. Damn, I just hate it when I can't fix something. Well, I tried, its not my fault if Customer Support is useless.

Uh, that is ugly. Yeah, the battles on the nVidia card that I have look freaking sweet. If they stay stable, I might just play my friend in the best of seven that I suggested. Should be the easiest 50 dollars I ever receieved.

Can you just keep this all in one thread?

Really, this forum is turning from a M:TW forum to a "Budwise and his issues with nVidia" forum.

Isn't a 5200 just another NVidia chipset card? Wouldn't that give you the same old set of driver issues with Medieval?

Yes it is - if he's going to run them both at once it will create an issue. However if he's physically swapping them everytime, he can just use older drivers (that work) with the 5200.

So Budwise's intention is to use an older NVidia card, so he can use the older (compatible with M-TW) drivers? I must have missed that when skimming thru the thread...sound like it should work, though a bit of a PITA.

Yep, the newer Nvidia cards won't run the drivers required to play this game, so I have to downgrade.
