Mtw Ctd???

first off i do apologise if this is in the wrong forum but it is the only place i can post at the moment. After reading the unit tutorial and new unit creation sticky i gave it a try but the game crashes at startup with "COLUMN_unit_type message "unknown unit type encountered column 2". Any help would be appreciated thanks.

I'm neither a moderator nor a modder, so I can only suggest you continue posting details about what you're attempting to do, what files you've altered, what editing tools you are using and so on.

After a time, your membership will be upgraded and you'll be able to post in the modding forum proper. In the meantime, continuing to post to this thread will keep it near the top of the list. Eventually, the mods will move it to its proper place. Obviously they won't want to do this until you've obtained your posting rights in the modding forum, or you'll be locked out of it!


Whilst I've never attempted modding, curiosity had me browsing through some of the key files, just to see what's there. By using the arrow keys to scroll the cursor, I've noticed that some, apparently blank, parts of lines of text actually consist of Tab characters. The only visible difference is in how the cursor moves along the line.

It occurs to me that the tab characters may divide one column from the next when the file is read by the game. Use of space characters instead, when you cut, pasted and edited sections perhaps, may have put a column out of register.

In the meantime, does restoring all the modified files from the backups get the game running again? You never know, starting again from scratch may even help fix the problem.
