Default Anyone else seen this? (Adoption Failed)

So I sit down, turn the computer on and load my Rome campaign. As soon as the campaign loads a message pops up saying I have a new adoptee. I'm thinking, "huh?", because that message wasn't there when I saved, and the game doesn't save random chance messages like that anyway.

Nevertheless I'm happy to see another general so I of course click the "Accept" button. Whereupon a new message pops up saying the man I was going to adopt is dead. At which point I'm thinking, "wtf??? what was the point of that?" Anyway, here are the relevant screenshots so you can see for yourselves:

Oh, and I got the screenshots because after this very strange event, I exited and loaded game again, and the same sequence occured. So I was able to get screenshots of it.

Yes many times, its another of the RTW teams' pythonesque sense of humour. Although I now am playing RTR, I admire the RTW team making it a little less serious at times(head hurlers, speeches about girls in dresses etc.)

Haven't seen it on loading but I have seen it after battles. It means he was up for promotion due to a heroic victory but he died in the battle.

Did you have a captain die just before saving? Maybe the game assessed the battle differently on reloading?

nah - cause that's a "Man of the Hour" message - I've gotten those - they're formatted different... this was, to initial appearances, a standard adoption setup... and then he was dead - it did give me a laugh tho...

I had a captain adoption happen after a battle last night playing as the Germans and it was the message in your first screen shot. Not man of the hour.
