Changing Factions Troop Colors in MTW ?

That`s the question, specifically I`d like to change the fire engine bright red of the English troops to darker red.

Any simple way to do this please ?

If you want to change the individual units' armour colour - there is no simple way

If you just want to change flags and banners (still not all that simple if you're no good with modding):-

Go into your MTW directory and find this folder;

\battle\FACShield\

There you see two folder - HiRes and LoRes. In each are shields for all the units in the game, which you'd need to edit all of the British ones darker (you havce to do both HiRes and LoRes.)

Also, in this folder;

\battle\Flags

are the individual nations' flags. I think these are carried by your general, so you'd need to change the English flag here too.


Altogether I count 20 icons that would need changing in here.

Really would like to see the English in dull red/browns, leaving the unit banners the bright red for ID.

Can you help with that please ?

The French could be a bit darker as well IMHO....

he wants to change the colour of the units uniform's,

changing the flags and shields appears to only affect the flags and shields

I realise that now Barocca It is easy to change flags, like I said, but to change uniforms? Well it would take a lot longer Mojo. But not impossible if you really are interested in modding.

I am looking for the file but I can't find it.
I don't know what it's called that's the problem.
When I find it I will let u know and how to change it.

I am redrawing some of the bifs at the moment

This will include recolouring the floresent pixs
which u could do yourself but it's a lot of work and shadeing
it would be easier to change the colour in the said annonymous file.

So that makes two sets of files missing. I was also wondering where the files with all the uniform colours were. All the textures show are the fluorescent coloured units ready to be changed to the colours of the faction....

the faction colours will probably be RGB numbers,

but wether they are in a text file somewhere or hardcoded into the executable remains to be seen.

Is it possible to edit the troops' banners without editing the Genral's? I'd like to use the cross of St. George for English troops and use the Lions of England for the Genral only.

it's the Demo Moding Guide, about 1/2 way down the page,
for a sample of the finished product download the Wales/Scotland or Lithuania FlagPack
of course these have facshield and flag changed, but your idea will work just fine
