Yes it's definitely a shift in policy, and a welcome one. Never before has the original game been patched once the add-on was released. Activision wouldn't even pay for the VI v2.01 patch despite the "all kings die at 56" problem.

The Sega buyout may turn out to be a very good thing after all. My hope is that the "Total Warrior" series will please the fast-action arcade fan, making some money for CA and allowing them to offer the "Total War" option for gamers who want to go to a more realistic level.

Thanks, Jochi. Interestingly, "Total Warrior" is coming out the same day as the "Total War" expansion pack, according to IGN.

This is interesting to note about the patch policy between Sega and EA. Another game that I play quite frequently is Sims 2, for which there is a very large fan base, and a large modding community.

Its been a struggle without real response against EA/Maxis to get a patch for University, the first EP for Sims 2, despite the glaring bugs in the game. Its come to a point where the modding community is releasing unsupported patches for the game where EA will not spend time and money on to do as they should, to support a product they have earned huge amounts of money from.

There is a group of people, including myself that have been very verbal about this, to the point where we have stated not buying future products of EA. I am glad another company has taken over and decided to support CA's work as I have really enjoyed RTW and will most likely get the EP now.

Every game or piece of software will have bugs, its really the response to these by the developers and their company that changes the players outlook on the quality of the product.

    Just my little rant

Well my guess would be that they will fix it in the next expansion thus forcing you to buy it, it is pretty much the EA way of running things.
With EA you are lucky to get a patch at all.

The games we play are not half what they can be. But that's what you get with capitalism! Soon, however, the system will change.

Well, all can agree it is a most positive sign that there will be a patch with all the issues solved with BI. That is new. Previously we had to buy the fixes that came with the expansions. So not everything is going downwards.

And if we are lucky then Doug is right that Warrior will soak up the fight-fast crowd while the Total War series can return to a more serious note.

But if we look at the stats for the units in the demo then CA has certainly made the fights slower. All def stats are rather strong compared to their attacks. In vanilla it is far more even.
