Default Whats your favorite anti war song?

    Heres a few of mine

Creedence Clearwater Revival Lyrics: Fortunate Son

Some folks are born made to wave the flag,
Ooh, they're red, white and blue.
And when the band plays "Hail to the chief",
Ooh, they point the cannon at you, Lord,

    It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no senator's son, son.
It ain't me, it ain't me; I ain't no fortunate one, no,

    Yeah!
Some folks are born silver spoon in hand,
Lord, don't they help themselves, oh.
But when the taxman comes to the door,
Lord, the house looks like a rummage sale, yes,

    It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no millionaire's son, no.
It ain't me, it ain't me; I ain't no fortunate one, no.

Some folks inherit star spangled eyes,
Ooh, they send you down to war, Lord,
And when you ask them, "How much should we give?"
Ooh, they only answer More! more! more! yoh,

It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no military son, son.
It ain't me, it ain't me; I ain't no fortunate one, one.

It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no fortunate one, no no no,
It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no fortunate son, no no no,
Man we loved this song in Nam. Easy to identify with.

Now on to waht I conider the best antiwar album ever

Its called Arthur or The Decline & Fall of The British Empire by the one and only KINKS. One of the most overlooked albums and it can be argued the first rock opera ever.

    Some Mother’s Son
Some mother’s son lies in a field
Someone has killed some mother’s son today
Head blown up by some soldier’s gun
While all the mothers stand and wait
Some mother’s son ain’t coming home today
Some mothers son ain’t got no grave

Two soldiers fighting in a trench
One soldier glances up to see the sun
And dreams of games he played when he was young
And then his friend calls out his name
It stops his dream and as he turns his head
A second later he is dead

Some mother’s son lies in a field
Back home they put his picture in a frame
But all dead soldiers look the same
While all the parents stand and wait
To meet their children coming home from school
Some mother’s son is lying dead

    Somewhere someone is crying
Someone is trying to be so brave
But still the world keeps turning
Though all the children have gone away

Some mother’s son lies in a field
But in his mother’s eyes he looks the same
As on the day he went away

They put his picture on the wall
They put flowers in the picture frame
    Some mothers memory remains
Kinks - Yes Sir, No Sir Lyrics

    Yes sir, no sir
    Where do I go sir
    What do I do sir
    What do I say

    Yes sir, no sir
    Where do I go sir
    What do I do sir
    How do I behave

    Yes sir, no sir
    Permission to speak sir
    Permission to breathe sir
What do I say, how do I behave, what do I say

So you think that youve got ambition
Stop your dreaming and your idle wishing
Youre outside and there aint no admission
    To our play
Pack up your ambition in your old kit bag
Soon youll be happy with a packet of fags
    Chest out stomach in
Do what I say, do what I say
    Yes right away

    Yes sir, no sir
    Where do I go sir
    What do I do sir
    What do I say

    Yes sir, no sir
    Permission to speak sir
    Permission to breathe sir
What do I say, how do I behave, what do I say

    Doesnt matter who you are
Youre there and there you are
    Everything is in its place
    Authority must be maintained
And then we know exactly where we are
Let them feel that theyre important to the cause
But let them know that they are fighting for their homes
Just be sure that theyre contributing their all
Give the scum a gun and make the bugger fight
And be sure to have deserters shot on sight
If he dies well send a medal to his wife

    Yes sir, no sir
    Please let me die sir
I think this life is affecting my brain
    Yes sir, no sir
    Three bags full sir
What do I do sir, what do I say
What do I say, how do I behave, what do I say
And finally this one. Its more of an anti establishment song than anti war but you get the idea.

    Brainwashed
You look like a real human being
But you don’t have a mind of your own
Yeah, you can talk, you can breathe
You can work, you can stitch, you can sew
    But you’re brainwashed
Yes you are, yes you are
    Get down on your knees
    You’ve got a job and a house
And a wife, and your kids and a car
    Yeah, you’re conditioned to be
What they want you to be
And be happy to be where you are
    Yes you are
    Get down on your knees
    Get down on your knees

    The aristocrats and bureaucrats
    Are dirty rats
For making you what you are
They’re up there and you re down here
You’re on the ground and they’re up with the stars
All your life they’ve kicked you around and pushed you around
Till you can’t take any more
To them you’re just a speck of dirt
But you don’t want to get up off the floor
    Mister you’re just brainwashed
    They give you social security
Tax saving benefits that grow at maturity
    Yeah, you’re conditioned to be
What they want you to be
And to do what they want you to
Yes you are, yes you are
    Get down on your knees

    Eve of destruction
    -Barry Mcguire

The eastern world it is explodin',
    Violence flarin', bullets loadin',
You're old enough to kill but not for votin',
You don't believe in war, what's that gun you're totin',
And even the Jordan river has bodies floatin',
But you tell me over and over and over again my friend,
Ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction.

Don't you understand, what I'm trying to say?
Can't you see the fear that I'm feeling today?
If the button is pushed, there's no running away,
There'll be noone to save with the world in a grave,
Take a look around you, boy, it's bound to scare you, boy,
But you tell me over and over and over again my friend,
Ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction.

Yeah, my blood's so mad, feels like coagulatin',
    I'm sittin' here, just contemplatin',
I can't twist the truth, it knows no regulation,
Handful of Senators don't pass legislation,
And marches alone can't bring integration,
    When human respect is disintegratin',
This whole crazy world is just too frustratin',
And you tell me over and over and over again my friend,
Ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction.

Think of all the hate there is in Red China!
Tehn take a look around to Selma, Alabama!
Ah, you may leave here, for four days in space,
But when your eturn, it's the same old place,
The poundin' of the drums, th pride and disgrace,
You can bury your dead, but don't leave a trace,
Hate your next-door-neighbour, but don't forget to say grace,
And you tell me over and over and over and over again my friend,
Ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction.

Masters of war by Dylan, I especially like the last three verses

    How much do I know
    To talk out of turn
You might say that I'm young
    You might say I'm unlearned
But there's one thing I know
    Though I'm younger than you
    Even Jesus would never
    Forgive what you do

Let me ask you one question
    Is your money that good
    Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could
    I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
    All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul

And I hope that you die
    And your death'll come soon
    I will follow your casket
    In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
    Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand o'er your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead
Yes, Iraq is peaceful. Go to sleep now. - Adrian II

Mine is Blowing in the Wind by Bob Dylan.

How many roads must a man walk down,
before you call him a man?
How many seas must a white dove fly,
before she sleeps in the sand?
And how many times must a cannon ball fly,
    before they're forever banned?

The answer my friend is blowing in the wind,
the answer is blowing in the wind.

How many years can a mountain exist,
before it is washed to the sea?
How many years can some people exist,
before they're allowed to be free?
And how many times can a man turn his head,
and pretend that he just doesn't see?

The answer my friend is blowing in the wind,
the answer is blowing in the wind.

How many times must a man look up,
    before he sees the sky?
And how many ears must one man have,
before he can hear people cry ?
And how many deaths will it take till we know,
that too many people have died?

The answer my friend is blowing in the wind,
the answer is blowing in the wind.

The answer my friend is blowing in the wind,
the answer is blowing in the wind.
Oh, Eve of Destruction and Fortunate Son are good too...

    Machine Gun by Jimi Hendrix
    Machine gun,
    tearin' my body all apart.
    Machine gun,yeah,
    tearin' my body all apart.
Evil man make me kill you.
Evil man make you kill me.
Evil man make me kill you,
even though were only famlies apart.
Well,I pick up my axe and fight like a farmer,
    You know what I mean?
Weh,hey, and your bullets keep knockin' me down.
Hey,I pick up my axe an' fight like a farmer, now,
yeah, but you still blast me down to the ground.
The same way you shoot me baby,
you'll be goin' just the same, three times the pain.
And with your own self to blame, machine gun!

I ain't afraid of your bullets no more, baby.
    I ain't afraid no more.
After awhile, your, your cheap talk won't even cause me pain,
so let your bullets fly like rain.
'Cause I know all the time your wrong, baby,
and you'll be goin' just the same.
    Machine gun,tearin' my family apart.
    Hey yeah,alright,tearin' my family apart.
Sometimes I slumber on a bed of roses
Sometimes I crash in the weeds
One day a bowl full of cherries
One night I'm suckin' on lemons and spittin' out the seeds

Born in the USA - Bruce Springsteen.

It's not an anti-war song proper. It's about some Joe Average and how the Vietnam war affected his life. From being send there to his cold reception back home.

I always liked Fortunate Son too.

The one you're thinking about by Hendrix, BDC, is 'Castles Made of Sand'. A good one too.

But I think not only my favorite Anti-War song, but perhaps my favorite song period, is this one by John Lennon:

    Imagine

    Imagine there's no heaven,
    It's easy if you try,
    No hell below us,
    Above us only sky,
    Imagine all the people
    living for today...

    Imagine there's no countries,
    It isnt hard to do,
Nothing to kill or die for,
    No religion too,
    Imagine all the people
    living life in peace...

    Imagine no possesions,
    I wonder if you can,
No need for greed or hunger,
    A brotherhood of man,
    Imagine all the people
    Sharing all the world...

You may say Im a dreamer,
but Im not the only one,
I hope some day you'll join us,
And the world will live as one.

    War Pigs, by Sabbath

    Generals gathered in their masses,
just like witches at black masses.
    Evil minds that plot destruction,
    sorcerers of death's construction.
In the fields the bodies burning,
as the war machine keeps turning.
    Death and hatred to mankind,
    poisoning their brainwashed minds.
    Oh lord, yeah!

    Politicians hide themselves away.
    They only started the war.
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to the poor, yeah.

Time will tell on their power minds,
    making war just for fun.
Treating people just like pawns in chess,
wait till their judgement day comes, yeah.

Now in darkness world stops turning,
    ashes where the bodies burning.
No more War Pigs have the power,
Hand of God has struck the hour.
Day of judgement, God is calling,
on their knees the war pigs crawling.
    Begging mercies for their sins,
    Satan, laughing, spreads his wings.
    Oh lord, yeah!

    Why do you hate Freedom?
The US is marching backward to the values of Michael Stivic.

Damn Hurin, how could I forget Imagine?

Well if you include Born in the USA, you've got to include Neil Young's Rocking in the Free World:

Rockin' In The Free World by Neil Young
    --------
    There's colors on the street
    Red, white and blue
    People shufflin' their feet
    People sleepin' in their shoes
But there's a warnin' sign on the road ahead
There's a lot of people sayin' we'd be better off dead
Don't feel like Satan, but I am to them
So I try to forget it, any way I can.

Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world.

I see a woman in the night
With a baby in her hand
    Under an old street light
    Near a garbage can
Now she puts the kid away, and she's gone to get a hit
She hates her life, and what she's done to it
There's one more kid that will never go to school
Never get to fall in love, never get to be cool.

Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world.

We got a thousand points of light
    For the homeless man
    We got a kinder, gentler,
    Machine gun hand
We got department stores and toilet paper
Got styrofoam boxes for the ozone layer
Got a man of the people, says keep hope alive
Got fuel to burn, got roads to drive.

Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world.
And some great ones about not so much war, but about protestors is CSNY's Ohio, Nash's Chicago...

"But if you should fall you fall alone,
If you should stand then who's to guide you?
If I knew the way I would take you home."

Easy its a great song but its more like a tribute to the communist manifesto than anti war. Read it carefully its all about being a communist. Either that or everyone becoming a true christain. Since it says no religion I think thats out though.

Buffalo Springfield For what it's worth

    There's somethin' happenin' here.
What it is ain't exactly clear.
There's a man with a gun over there
A-tellin' me I've got to beware.

I think it's time we stop.
    Children, what's that sound?
    Everybody look what's goin' down.

    There's battle lines bein' drawn.
    Nobody's right if everybody's wrong.
    Young people speakin' their minds
A-gettin' so much resistance from behind.

I think it's time we stop.
    Hey, what's that sound?
    Everybody look what's goin' down.

What a field day for the heat.
A thousand people in the street
    Singin' songs and a-carryin' signs
Mostly sayin' hooray for our side.

    It's time we stop.
    Hey, what's that sound?
    Everybody look what's goin' down.

    Paranoia strikes deep.
Into your life it will creep.
It starts when you're always afraid.
Step out of line, the men come and take you away.

    You better stop.
    Hey, what's that sound?
    Everybody look what's goin'..
    You better stop.
    Hey, what's that sound?
    Everybody look what's goin'..
    You better stop.
    Now, what's that sound?
    Everybody look what's goin'..
    You better stop.
    Children, what's that sound?
    Everybody look what's goin down
or Ten Years After I'd love to change the world

    Freaks and hairies
    Dykes and fairies
    Tell me where is sanity

I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you

    Population
    Keeps on breeding
    Nation bleeding
    Still more feeding economy

    Life is funny
    Skies are sunny
    Bees make honey
    Who needs money, monopoly

I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you

    Oh yeah

    World pollution
    There's no solution

    Electrocution
    Just black or white
    Rich or poor
    Them and us

I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you
and Pink Floyd Goodbye blue sky

"Look mummy, there's an aeroplane up in the sky"

Did you see the frightened ones?
Did you hear the falling bombs?
Did you ever wonder why we had to run for shelter when the promise of a brave new world unfurled beneath a clear blue sky?

Did you see the frightened ones?
Did you hear the falling bombs?
The flames are all gone, but the pain lingers on.

    Goodbye, blue sky
    Goodbye, blue sky.
    Goodbye.
    Goodbye.
    Goodbye.

Gah! Forgot For What it's Worth as well! What the heck?

Easy its a great song but its more like a tribute to the communist manifesto than anti war. Read it carefully its all about being a communist. Either that or everyone becoming a true christain. Since it says no religion I think thats out though.
I know it's about being a communist. But still it's also anti war, though not as specific as some of the other ones.

Heres two great ones from Motown.

    What's Goin On

    Marvin Gaye, Motown

    Mother, mother
There's too many of you crying
    Brother, brother, brother
There's far too many of you dying
You know we've got to find a way
To bring some lovin' here today - Ya

    Father, father
    We don't need to escalate
You see, war is not the answer
For only love can conquer hate
You know we've got to find a way
To bring some lovin' here today

    Picket lines and picket signs
    Don't punish me with brutality
Talk to me, so you can see
    Oh, what's going on
    What's going on
    Ya, what's going on
    Ah, what's going on

    In the mean time
    Right on, baby
    Right on
    Right on

Father, father, everybody thinks we're wrong
Oh, but who are they to judge us
Simply because our hair is long
Oh, you know we've got to find a way
To bring some understanding here today
    Oh

    Picket lines and picket signs
    Don't punish me with brutality
    Talk to me
    So you can see
    What's going on
    Ya, what's going on
    Tell me what's going on
I'll tell you what's going on - Uh
    Right on baby
    Right on baby
    and

    Edwin Starr - War
    War! - huh- yeah-
    What is it good for?
    Absolutely nothing
    Uh-huh

    War! – huh – yeah-
    What is it good for?
    Absolutely nothing
    Say it again y’all

War! – huh – good God
    What is it good for?
    Absolutely nothing
    Listen to me…

    Ohhh… War! I despise
    Because it means destruction’
    Of innocent lives

    War means tears
    to thousands of mothers eyes
When their sons go to fight
    and lose their lives

    I said - War! Huh – Good God y’all
    What is it good for?
    Absolutely nothing
    Say it again

    War! Whoa, Lord
    What is it good for
    Absolutely nothing
    Listen to me…

War! It ain’t nothing but a heartbreaker
War! Friend only to the undertaker
War! It’s an enemy to all mankind
The thought of war blows my mind

War has caused unrest in the younger generation
    Induction then destruction-
    Who wants to die?

    Ohhh… War – Good God Y’all
    What is it good for?
    Absolutely nothing
Say it, Say it, Say it

    War! Uh-huh – Yeah - Huh!
    What is it good for?
    Absolutely nothing
    Listen to me…

War! It ain’t nothing but a heartbreaker
War! It’s got one friend, that’s the undertaker
War has shattered many a young mans dreams
Made him disabled bitter and mean
Life is much to precious to spend fighting wars these days
War can’t give life, it can only take it away

War! Huh – Good God y’all
    What is it good for?
    Absolutely nothing
    Say it again

    War! Whoa, Lord
    What is it good for
    Absolutely nothing
    Listen to me…

War! It ain’t nothing but a heartbreaker
War! Friend only to the undertaker
    Peace Love and Understanding;
tell me, is there no place for them today?
They say we must fight to keep our freedom
But Lord knows there’s got to be a better way

War! Huh – Good God y’all
    What is it good for?
    You tell me
Say it, Say it, Say it

I would like to propose this by BG (yes Blind Guardian always, vita aeterna!!):

    Battlefield

It cannot be seen but there's blood on the green
    Only God knows I'm innocent
    Take me, take me home
A dark seed reigns in me like the Storm rules over the sea
I challenge thee, do not cross this bridge alone

    Don't dare me now
The threatening shadows will pass by

    They're getting closer now
    Open your eyes
Wake up my dear young friend
    And hate shall fade away

    I will not move, yet
    I'll stand still instead

There on the battlefield he stands
Down on the battlefield he's lost
And on the battlefield it ends

    War and anger shall reign
The clash of iron can be heard
    By blindness you're driven insane
I'm lost in anguish and grief
Sorrow won't wane 'til you die
    A shattered body deeply hurt
And darkness will cover the light
    It's gone forevermore

The field's been left in sorrow
The father and the son they're gone
The Sun shines bright and anger rises
    Lorn and lonely torn apart
Don't you think it's time to stop now
We were charmed and fooled by the old serpent's kiss

Let's pray that heaven is on our side
Through violence and horror shall honour arise
So let's pray and blessed shall be our leader
We follow the noble and bright

Don't you hear me crying, crying
    Come take me away
    I hallow thy name

There on the battlefield he stands
Down on the battlefield he's lost
And on the battlefield it ends

    War and anger shall reign
The clash of iron can be heard
    By blindness you're driven insane
I'm lost in anguish and grief
Sorrow won't wane 'til you die
    A shattered body deeply hurt
And darkness will cover the light
    It's gone forevermore

    That's what the minstrel sing
    Join in the horrible screams
    Take part in murderous deeds
    Renowned be the lion-hearted

    Join in the minstrelsy
    Wailing in endless grief
    It eagerly longs for more
Broken bodies lay down on the ground

Blood sheds all over the place
The green will be stained forever
And hate reigns all over the field
They keep struggling on in anger

Fiercely intense outrageous, too blind to see
And in pain they keep on singing
We claim the land for the highlord
God bless the land and our highlord

    War and anger shall reign
The clash of iron can be heard
    By blindness you're driven insane
I'm lost in anguish and grief
Sorrow won't wane 'til you die
    A shattered body deeply hurt
And darkness will cover the light
    It's gone forevermore

That's definatly my favourite. I always remember playing Battlefield Vietnam when you could play this song and others (as well as your own) while driving a vehicle across land blasting up everyone and everything.

    Great song!
