I'm always ignorant of everything anyway. What a blissful existence I live.
I normally play in long bursts anyway, so loading and savings at a minimum for me.
Thanks forthe answers guys.
Burn, piggies, burn.
There is truth in the OP. In the Battle for Middle Earth game, which I played before RTW, there was much hue and cry in the forums about the memory leak problem in the game. The developers at EA said we hear you and we will fix it in the next patch. Then they issued the patch, without addressing the memory leak problem, saying instead that there is no memory leak problem.
It was about that time I gave up on BFME.

AFAIK CA explained the load/save bug was a "feature", in that when a save game is loaded, the AI does a complete reassessment of its position, and as part of this reassessment it decides to lift sieges and go and do something else. This suggests that there is nothing intrinsincally wrong with the save file itself, merely in what happens when a game is loaded. It is therefore possible that Continue Campaign and loading an explicit file have been coded slightly differently, so that the reassessment only occurs for the latter.Originally Posted by mongoose
Having said all that, I cannot recall any controlled testing that shows that Continue Campaign works differently; there was a lot of ancedotal stories, but nothing that was reproducible or convincing.
Whatever works for you...I stopped playing RTW months ago - I'm saving all my enthusiasm for BI.

if I would have said I had a foolproof, watertight workaround for the bug that works for everybody in each and every case, I would have been wrong.
If I would have said I had an explanation, I *probably* would have been wrong.
But I didn't
It's an old discussion, really. I think I mentioned that.
I don't claim anything. I only make the observation that In my case (and my case only) it appears to have beneficial effects to only use 'continue campaign'. I'm weel aware of the fact that this function merely loads an ordinary save.
I still think it's worth trying.
Yes, I do experience AI factions expanding much quicker when using "continue campaign" button.
I'm at 220BC playing as Macedons and Seleucids and Cartheginians are expanding like crazy and Ptolemys is getting their arse kicked.
I just ran a test...and your theory is wrong. Continue campaign has no effect on the bug.You are quick to drop to conclusions my friend.
And for the record: no, i'm not.
