Default How do I change faction portraits?

I've almost finished modding my RTW campaign, with just one job left to do. My Egyptian army is now Ptolemaic, and the characters have Greek names, but the mod I downloaded still has Egyptian character portraits - either that, or I'm looking in the wrong place! How do I use the Greek portraits for Egypt?

The portraits are, as far as I recall right now, stored in the UI folder. Normally, the UI files and quite a big bunch of stuff is packed in a single .pak file, I´m not sure which one, but you´ll have to unpack it. Somewhere in there you´ll find folders for the portraits, just cpoy all the greek ones into the egypt folder, and you should be done. Note, however, that portraits are assigned to culture, not faction. It doesn´t make a difference with the egyptians, but if you did the same with, say, the Germans, the Scythian, British, Gauls and Dacians would also have the altered portaits, because they all belong to the "barbarian" culture.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. Hopefully ModSwitcher can do the business once again!

Well, I've tried it but with only partial success. Even after completely deleting the Egyptian portrait folder and replacing it with the Greek one, four out of six characters I checked still had Egyptian portraits. Only the spy and the governor of Jerusalem had changed. Any thoughts on why this happened?

That´s really strange, but sorry, I have no clue. I haven´t tried it myself yet, I just know how to theoretically go about it.

I found a similar thread over at twcenter.net, and apparently portraits are hardcoded to cultures. Actually, the way it's turned out isn't too bad, as the "Egyptian" generals could be Greeks in local ceremonial dress. The mix of Greek and Egyptian ancillaries works well, too, as Ptolemaic Egypt was a cosmopolitan place.

    Heres your problem:

    1)Go into packs/data/ui/greek/portraits/.
2)Take all the files in here or just copy the portraits folder
3)Go back up the ladder to Data (the actual one not the packs sub folder)
make the path data/ui/egyptian/portraits in the Rome: Total-war/Data directory.
    4) paste over portraits or in it depending on whether you copied the packs folder or its contents
    5)start the game

If it doesn't work pm me and I'll tell you what to do next.
