Yes, from my limited viewpoint, you seem like the type of person who could become a freelance journalist - or anything else - and be successful at it. At this point in my life I still need some direction. I may be smart enough to put together a business on paper, but Im not wise enough to run it properly.
Its long overdue that I stop depending on dad, but I just havent come across anything that makes me enthusiatic enough to change my relatively boring, yet comfortable life. The military was "it". It was going to be the time when I got out on my own and became my own man.. and to think, all that ROTC marching down the drain.
What was it about the military that you liked? Would something like the emergency services or the coastguard be similar?
I can understand that but on the other hand there is always a reason not to do something. You have to get out there a bit in order to discover interesting things you will want to do. My freind and I were duck hunting and he swung to get a duck and shot right by my head, blowing my eardrum out. Although its repaired and ive got 80% hearing and am still able to hunt, apparently the concussion of heavy weaponry could destroy it again. Thats a liability the military wont accept. Why cant you join?
Why do you want to rot away in the military Panzer? What's the point of lying around in camps with people yelling at you and all the hardships for such minimum pay? I know it's glamorous killing people that hate freedom but do you really think you'll get any more then 5 seconds of trigger time your whole life(also with the risk of being hurt)?
I used to think the army was cool too when I was small. I later watched a movie called Full Metal Jacket and that changed my mind completely. It's not even the army as it's suposed to be. Your superiors should have respect for you not beat into the ground and abuse you for everything.
Uhm, you can go to a different MEPS and just not disclose this. They'll say a bunch of non-sense about 'fraudalent enlistment' but there's no way they're finding out unless you blab, thanks to HIPAA. All that should happen is that when you take your physical at MEPS you'll be barred from jobs like Sonar Tech or other hearing sensitive jobs, and it doesn't sound like those are up your alley.Originally Posted by PanzerJager
It's stupid for the military to bar someone from serving because a gun blast damaged ones ear drum. Half the fun for guys in the Marines and the Army infantry is hearing how loud things can explode. Ask Redleg. I doubt he can hear a damn thing after his time with the King of Battle.
Hehe, I didnt want to be in the military just to shoot people who dont like freedom. Why do you want to rot away in the military Panzer? Being in the military gives you experiences you'll never get anywhere else, and I would argue it makes a lot of people better than they were coming in.. of course not all.
Prole, do they not request your military records? When I tried to join some years ago the recruiter required them and said it was the same in every branch.
What military records do you have? Were you a dependent that visitied military hospitals? That could be a problem, but there's ways around it.Originally Posted by PanzerJager
Most recruiters help you find the loop holes to get in around silly things like this. The worst that can happen is if you go to basic, and then try to get discharged because your ear hurts, if they find out what happened to you previously you'll get the fraudulent enlistment deal.
I remember seeing Marine recruiters giving their recruits who had smoked pot masking teas so they could pass the drug test upon entry. A health problem as minor as your's has to be workable.
Heh, ive got the military on my mind. I meant medical records. Sorry.![]()
No, medical records are protected by the Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act. It's illegal for them to get your medical records without your consent. They'll ask you a bunch of stuff about your medical history, just answer 'no' to everything. It's how alot of people with asthma get in.
Something like your injury would be very easy to get in with, since it's so likely you'd get that injury while serving anyway. The first time you're on a live fire exercise or some activity where there's risk to your ear drums, just go on to sick call the next day and complain about a ring in your ear. You'll probably wind up with better treatment for your ears than you'd get on the outside.
If you want to be in as bad as you say, just don't bring it up with your (new) recruiter and you'll be fine. I hope it works out for you.
(I know this sounds unethical, but the doctors at MEPS that are there to disqualify recruits fight dirty. You could say 'Mexican food gives me indigestion' and they might send you home. I actually saw that happen.)

Thanks Prole, i feel a bit mislead now. The guy never said I could chose not to disclose medical information. I hope im not on some list somewhere. My dream might not be gone afterall.![]()
LoL Caps.. i could defend the freedom of those brave men and women in Beverly Hills, God bless them.
Well, technically you should disclose that stuff when they ask, but if it keeps you from doing something you've dreamed about... Well, I know this wouldn't be a very difficult moral dilemma for me.
