The question is - how to get night battles. I have read in guides that they are possible and several units has extras in night battles. As far I can play, I never got darkness in battle map - i have waited all three turns for battle, but it changes only amount of clouds. I have seen also screenshots with night battles. Are the night battles possible at all and if yes - how to get them ?

As far as I am aware night battles are only a part of the BI expansion which is only out on demo at the moment.

Thanks. I just read units description and some units (like german night riders or something like that) are said to be fighting at night, so I hoped... :)

I understood it worked like this: In BI expansion, it will be able to initiate a fight during nighttime, but only with a general which has the trait night-fighter.
The unit you're referring to I don't recall from the original RTW, but I never fought an original german campaign. I did however see that you can train german night raiders in the Darthmod. As far as I know, this has no relation to fighting at night however..

Night battles were a feature planned for the original release, but for some reason it was dropped. There are still remnants this phase though, like the German Night Raider unit and two V&V's series regarding night battles (noctophilia/noctophobia). You can also fight a night battle through the custom battle menu, but the only difference is the colour of the sky.

The expansion will feature night battles, with a real night sky, soldiers holding torches, etc. For a taste of this, download the BI demo and fight the Badon Hill battle. Sadly, CA has announced that the expansion will not add night battles to the original campaign.
