Default Some Issues - Please Help

I have a couple of minor issues I hope I can get some help with:

1.) I recently installed the 1.2 patch, and while reading through some of the new features, I noticed that there was a new "CAMPAIGN_MAP SMOOTHING" feature or something like that, but when I looked in my Preferences.txt the line was not there... I added it myself, but I am not too sure if it is working... Has anyone else had this issue?

2.) One of the new features was the ablility to turn off the Map, Unit Cards, and Buttons interface during battles by pressing f5, f6, etc... But when I press these in the game, they do not go away. I have tried re-assigning the keys but nadda...

3.) I noticed that my archers (Roman) have a weird graphical glitch now, where I see weird red textures appearing on the models...

4.) Yesterday I was playing with the MOD switcher, and installed RTR6.0. I backed up my DATA folder, but I did not back up my Preferences.txt which was replaced with RTR6.0. Would someone please send me their default Vanilla 1.2 preferences file? Dave.Karpuc@gmail.com. I would really appreciate it...

    Any help/suggestions is greatly appreciated...

in reply to your first question :

the line might not be in your pref. text , but that doesn't mean it doesn't work.
Have you not noticed that moving your mouse over the map is now smoother , when I installed the patch I definatly noticed it.
So you probably don't have to worry about that :)

    Hello,

Well it specifically said that it was in the Preferences file... Its not that big of a deal - I am just worried that something did not install right if it is not showing up there as it should...

I dont notice it so much because my computer is already pretty choppy in the map mode :(

Also, thanks for the suggestion about doing it manually. The only thing is that I would like to be able to turn it on/off during the game... No idea why it dosnt work..

Again, the main reason I am posting these issues is because I want to figure out if these are known/common issues, or something went wrong with my 1.2 install...

Thanks for your suggestions so far :)

That's not a preferences setting. It's just supposed to work better, but I didn't notice much of a difference.

You have to set MINIMAL_UI = YES in preferences.txt. Then in battle you should see the unit icons in a single row across the bottom, the radar map in the top right corner and the control buttons in a double row at top center screen. You can then toggle these things on and off with F4, F5 and F6. The control buttons have a triple toggle: drop down when the cursor in near the top center, always on screen and always off.

I don't get that problem. Maybe RTR did something to the textures.

    Hello,

Great, thanks for the tips. I am still puzzled as to why that smooth thing wasnt there after I patched it... oh well.

I will try to enable that command line and then see if the buttons then work.

Thanks for the tips guys, the responses here are real quick.

    Ok,

I re-installed RTW yesterday, and before applying the 1.2 patch, I moved the preferences.txt out of my RTW folder. Then I installed the 1.2 patch, and it didnt put in a new preferences.txt file! So obviously it is not even trying to modify the old preferences.txt file from 1.0!

Also, someone sent me their UNMODIFIED preferences.txt from 1.2 yesterday and he has the CAMPAIGN_MAP_CAMERA_SMOOTHING:TRUE line in his!

He mentioned that some other people have had this problem and the patch could be screwd up... I downloaded it from:

    http://download.activision.com/total..._1.2_Patch.exe

The minimul_ui solved the problem - thank you.

Unfortunately now it seems like all my hot keys (speed up time, pause, etc..) are VERY finnicky now. But I already read that this is a bug...
