So, what do you all think about this? I think it's just crazy.

I think it is deeply tragic. Iraqis have been living with insecurity, terrorism, bad infrastructure and public chaos for two years now. That is enough to make anyone crazy.Originally Posted by Del Arroyo

Do you think there actually was a suicide bomber?
Anyway, my deepest sympathies to those who were involved and their families.

In a sense that does not matter. People are terrified by the mere prospect of a suicide bomber in their midst because there have been so many over the past two years. This is, literally, what terrorism does, it strikes terror in peoples' hearts. Believers trample one another because of it. Children don't go to school because of it. People lose confidence in the future, friends and neighbours fall out over it, youngsters can not afford to be carefree as they should -- all of society becomes unhinged because of it. That is what makes it such a heinous crime.Originally Posted by Silver Rusher

And I suppose the rocket and mortar attacks on the crowd prior to the stampede did little to alleviate their terror .
All those poor people… May God have mercy on them all.

That’s a horrible way to die. A tragic illustration of the living conditions there.

Wouldn't this be one of the most effective solo suicide bombers ever?

Seriously sad... I heard reports that Iraqi security forces aprehended a suicide bomber before he could reach his target and that a bomb was found.

I just hope the Iraqi people will get to know the blessings of a peaceful, safe society at some point in their lives...
So the fear of terrorist attack successfully kills more people then the vast majority of terrorist attacks.
Is there a single terrorist attack in Iraq that has killed that many people?
Yes. In Halabja, March 1988, during the Al-Anfal, and it was committed by ‘Chemical’ Ali Hassan al-Majid, under orders from Saddam Hussein.Originally Posted by Papewaio

Sad.
What happens if you die on a pilgrimage?
Is it a higher status death?
Do you go straight to paradise?
An interesting question, lets also ask, if you die while you are at church on Sunday, do you go to heaven?

The Voice of America has a different take on the bridge stampede. Maybe we didn't get the right 'picture' after all?

I wonder how they will explain the coming mass-funerals.
The incident is very sad indeed.

I find this hard to believe, but numbers do sometimes get exagerated. I would think the 900 # would have to be more accurate judging from the amount of people on the bridge. Very sad, God rest their souls...Originally Posted by AdrianII
