    Default Horde

    No, this isn't a thread on how to beat them.

    I did this a while ago. You know there's a command to change factions? What is it?

    Has anyone taken over the horde? As Katank said...give me that army and I'll show you an empire

    So, anyone cheesed out and got that many thousands of men?

    You type -ian into the target of the icon (right-click icon then click on Properties).

    It should look like this after you type it in:
    "D:\Medieval - Total War\Medieval_TW.exe" -strictserver -ian

    Then you can switch between factions using the CTRL + number keys, or CTRL + SHIFT + number keys.

    When you are the horde you have to use the horde tactics and overrun the east, some of the mid-east, and even get to Poland and near Egypt. At the beginning you have a huge army, and very little income, you have to expand quickly just to be able to keep yourself solvent.

    I'm doing a Mongol Campaign at the moment and it is quite interesting. Here is how to make unplayable factions playable in MTW.

    Program Files > Total War > Medieval Total War > Camp Map > Startpos

    In the Startpos folder you should see three text documents named Early, High and Late. Open the Early text file and SAVE IT BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING. Scroll down about half way until you find this:

    //========================================
    //Active Factions
    //which factions are to appear in the game
    //and which of these factions are playable
    //========================================
    SetActiveFaction:: FN_ALMOHAD FT_MAJOR
    SetActiveFaction:: FN_BYZANTINE FT_MAJOR
    SetActiveFaction:: FN_EGYPTIAN FT_MAJOR
    SetActiveFaction:: FN_ENGLISH FT_MAJOR
    SetActiveFaction:: FN_FRENCH FT_MAJOR
    SetActiveFaction:: FN_GERMAN_HRE FT_MAJOR
    SetActiveFaction:: FN_ITALIAN FT_MAJOR
    SetActiveFaction:: FN_POLISH FT_MAJOR
    SetActiveFaction:: FN_SPANISH FT_MAJOR
    SetActiveFaction:: FN_TURKISH FT_MAJOR
    SetActiveFaction:: FN_DANISH FT_MAJOR

    SetActiveFaction:: FN_ARAGONESE FT_MAJOR
    SetActiveFaction:: FN_HUNGARIAN FT_MAJOR
    SetActiveFaction:: FN_SICILIAN FT_MAJOR

    SetActiveFaction:: FN_NOVGOROD FT_MINOR
    SetActiveFaction:: FN_PAPIST FT_MINOR

    Since i have the Viking Invasion expansion, some people's may look different. To make the factions playable change the MINOR to MAJOR. Do this in the HIGH and LATE text files as well. Do NOT start a GA campaign with any of these as the game will CTD if you try to look at your goals.

    Another note is that even though the Mongol entry appears in the High text file (I think) you cannot play them, so only use them in Late. Do not click on Royal Palaces for the Mongols either as you will get an error message.

    Finally you will not be able to play multiplayer with these changes unless the people who play with have made the same changes.

    What I did was mod the different factions to be playable, then started a campaign with all of them and made a save at the first turn. I then changed the startpos files back to normal, so now i can play as any faction I want and can also play online.
