    Default I miss this

I really really miss the old easiness to bribe everything that marched or stood.

Seriously I miss sending a spy into a city to determine "Shall I take it by force or do I want to bribe the city and get the governor inside?"

Does anyone else miss having the entire enemy nobility who you feel is worthy join you?

Bribery's incredibly expensive now, but I'll still bribe family members. They have kids, and it also strips the enemy's family tree.

Are you sure bribed family members have kids? I haven't seen them do this, ever

Yeah, I'm quite sure. They get married and so forth, just like regular family members.

It might by a problem if the family member who's bribed is old, but that would be the only problem.

Maybe it's because I leave lots of "acquired" family members in my capital city, picking up rentinue members. They meet daughters in the "real" family. I'll keep a closer watch in the future.

When you have 1 million denarii as starting money, you don't look at the prices of bribing....

    Doug,
what amounts of money does it take you to bribe family members? Even before I switched to RTR, with 40-50,000 denarii left in the treasury (I like to burn money to avoid bad governor traits) they outrightly refused all the time. I have not been successful in RTR either, not even rebel generals will join me.

    Deus ret.;

$60,000-plus. I've seen some ask for as much as $100,000, though I've rarely paid that much.

How can anybody afford this? By plundering cities, exterminating populations and destroying foreign temples. Not only do you get big bags of loot, depopulated cities have little population to support yet have rich trade. They also don't require large garrisons, usually. Also, your general can get 10 percent extra loot if he has a drillmaster.

The bloodthirsty nature of R:TW compared to M:TW is an ongoing gripe of mine. We really do "create a desert and call it peace."

Actually, I find that bribes are a bit too cheap when there isn't a family member around.
If violence didn't solve your problem... well, you just haven't been violent enough.

Yeah, Akka, but when there isn't a family member around, there also isn't much point to a bribe. It's better to fight the bandits if there's an army anywhere around. You get a unit some experience and have a decent shot at a "man of the hour."

Never done it, will never do it. I play this game to battle, so what's the use of buying the enemy into submission?

This is why I haven't downloaded the 1.2 patch.

I once bribed a Gaul family member in his 50s who had children in the gaul family tree then got married to a Roman and had children in the julii family tree.

I know because he was one of the starting family who had children when the game starts. One of his sons was running around fighting him

    WE WILL RIDE INTO ROME!
