Default Taking enemy towers when sieging

    Hello.

Someone told me that if you take a tower when sieging the tower will be taken and will shoot to their prior lords.

I've tryed this and seems not to work, their onagers almost destroy the tower since I was standing there and when the army advanced (and the unit got down the wall) the tower was still shooting my army.

Is this thing true? Can I take the enemy towers?

Yes it should work - just move a unit along the wall so that it passes through the tower and you should get a notice saying you've captured a building. But they can take it back, which may be what happened when your unit got down the wall. (If the enemy retake the tower you get the building lost notice)

Are you talking about seige towers or wall towers?

You can take wall towers, but not seige towers.

Not only can you take wall towers, you have to take them, unless you like your soldiers to look like a pin-cushion. Taking or destroying towers is crucial, you´ll loose a lot of men if you don´t do it, because usually (thanks to the great city designers with their love for labyrinths ) you often have to follow the city street along the walls to find a way into the center. If you do that and don´t take the towers, your army gets ripped to pieces by the tower´s arrows.

Yes, when I need to take a walk through the town to get to the city centre, I usually send one unit forward to the walls, making them follow the same route so that unit can capture every wall tower before my army passes.
Just click on any spot on the wall, a bit further than the wall tower you want to capture, and the unit will walk to that spot, using the small "doors" left and right of each tower.

Yu're right, I tryed again and got the wall tower captured.

But now I'm needing some file config!!

I'm besieging Athens, but is infested of those damn greek phalanx hoplites, and half of my army are chevalry (the other half are carthagian sacred band pikemen).

When capturing the walls and defeating them in the streets (to get the downtown) the battle timer inexorably goes out

Is there a way to deactivate the battle timer once started a campaign? I was trying to find something in preferences.txt or some other, but nothing appeared.

hmm...options>gameplay>unlimited campaign battle time limit (check yes)

    or something like that, though...

As far as I recall, you can set the attle timer only at the beginning of a campaing, but I might be wrong there. Personally, I do use it, I win most of my battles anyway and the time limit gives the AI at least some chance to win.

Yes, you're right. I was looking too deep in the files... while to solution was right within the game interface

    Thanks!

It would be nice if the AI was a bit dynamic.

EG. You take the wall after hard fight and do not have many men left, so instead marching around the streets getting shot at by their own towns, the AI launches a counter attack to retake the walls.

Actually I this is the best way.

    Build two Siege Towers

Load your best infantry into the towers.

Take the walls (If they have too many men order the rest of your infantry to rush through the siege towers to the wall).

Run infantry through the enemy towers to capture them.

Kill everyone with a force of cavalry.

I find that it is all too easy to get Cavalry around Phalanx, even in cities. As long as you have enough you should be able to do it.

Just retreat the cavalry as the Hoplites try to get you and charge as they retreat.
