    Default Anyone Tried This?

I'm not a big fan of assaulting castles until I have cannons so this is what I do. I like to attack, win the battle, withdraw allowing the garrison to reoccupy the province, and repeat until their army is defeated and there is no siege. When doing this I rarely (if ever) have a reduction of the fortification and (I believe) my generals get credit for a(n easy) win. Does this sound correct?

Reinvent the British and you get a global finance center, edible food and better service. Reinvent the French and you may just get more Germans.

Yes, this works. All you have to do is get the enemy to stay in the battlefield instead of retreating before the battle. I use it most often on the rebels in eastern europe.

It is not complete until the overwieght female vocalizes.

It is good with rebels because they are usualy low valor units and the can be easily overrun and captured when already fleeing. What I hate is when there is a better unit that I was able to crack and they are running away and still I cannot manage to kill or capture until the border comes... This is especially bad with mounted units that are harder to catch or surround.

If only 1 or 2 men are stuck in the fortification you can of course use the spy to open the gates but sometimes (it's silly I know) it is better to use the assassin to kill that 1 or 2 persons. So they run out of men and you have the castle...

Gosh, seems like somebody opened a Cheese factory in the Main Hall?

Isn't it easier and simpler to just use Peasants to assault the Castle?

As non-native English speaker (there are people like that) I can only guess that you are being sarcastic about easy (cheesy) tactics, right?

Well, I think it is enough challange to kill or capture each and every enemy soldier without allowing even one to escape... It is even so with refought battles as well.

During the time before refrigeration most milk was processed into cheese so it could be stored longer . Therefore there was a greater cheese to milk ratio than exists today. Don't think of it as a cheesy tacit; think of it as historical realism.

I also wanted to add something: I've had a lot of fun lately as the Byzantines using small army tactics and flanking units with TAs. Archer infantry rule!

Sometimes I just invade as many provinces as I can in one year destroying their main forces, then send them all to one province further into enemy territory and combine the forces there and then send them marching around the entire enemy territory, occasionally they flee leaving the castle unattended. So I never stay in a siege and am constantly on the attack.

catapults aren't too hard to build though, 1 catapult can destroy a stone wall easily, so it is best to bring 3 along when invading a province with a castle or a keep with a curtain wall. Don't worry about catapult towers they hardly ever hit, just place them aiming at the side of the castle and on the same side so they can concentrate their firepower on one wall at a time. Get through the walls and charge your troops in and withdraw your catapult crew.

Yes, I was being sarcastic. Though, in general, I hate Cheesy tactics. There's been a LOT of talk about cheesy tactics lately.

    Anyway....

You know the other day I made a big write up detailing useful tactics to do just that, kill them all, to prevent them from making it to the Castle.

The actual theme was how to play with and beat the Time Limit, and how the Timer is beneficial in developing good battle skills; but it was lengthy and needs to be edited.

That and the fact that the taste for cheese appears so strong, a discussion of real tactics is probably unwanted, so I didn't bother to post.

Gosh, I just hate it when people get all historical---its just a Game!!

    Nice retort!

I don't usually do that with an important provence in an early game. Why? Because the AI is a opportunistic bastard.

Foir Example, Constantinople as Byzantines in High:

I usually can take Const, but most of the time I cannot assault the castle, in the meantime, the Huns usually take Bulgaria and are camping to see whether of not the Italians weaken the Greeks enough or my forces in Const can hold them off. One particularly memorable case was a battle I fought with HA. I lost no one and they can away with one Arb that I missed. So I spend 6 turns trying to bribe the little monkey because I couldn't afford to retake Const.
Fighting isn't about winning, it's about depriving your enemy of all options except to lose.

    That's when assassins are useful!

(Or retreat and let them go rebel.)
