    Apart from such more satiric articles, there exist a number of theories which attribute the collapse of first the ancient polis and later the Roman empire to the respective societal system's inability to cope with the advanced state of money circulation and the rather far-developed monetary form, according to which some kind of capitalism would had to have been formed as the next (logical) step to further unfold this form. Which (for a number of reasons) was impossible at that time, that's why these kinds of societies collapsed and economic activity was hugely set back for a long time, only gradually emerging again from under the shroud of the medieval dark ages after 1450. So, this Fargo guy is not entirely wrong.

    The article just reminded me of that, which for itself is more for rofl....
